Accordingly, this is the first time after nearly 13 months in power that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has carried out a large-scale cabinet reshuffle.

Mr. Cameron, 57 years old, served as British Prime Minister from 2010 - 2016. He resigned after the Brexit referendum result, when Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU).

Before his surprise return to British politics, he spent the past seven years writing memoirs and dabbling in business, including working at Greensill Capital, a financial firm.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's office said on November 13 that King Charles had agreed to give Mr. Cameron a seat in the British House of Commons, allowing him to return to the cabinet as a minister even though he is no longer an elected MP.

In his first comments in his new position, the former British Prime Minister expressed hope that his experience as Prime Minister would help him deal with current international challenges.

"I am pleased to accept this decision, in the context of the UK facing a series of international challenges. I have not participated in politics for the past 7 years, but hope that my experience in 11 years leading the Conservative Party and 6 years as Prime Minister will help me support the Prime Minister in dealing with the current existential challenges," said Mr. Cameron.

Also in this cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Sunak fired Home Secretary Suella Braverman under public and internal pressure over her criticism of the police's handling of pro-Palestinian protests during the Hamas-Israel conflict. Prime Minister Sunak then appointed Foreign Secretary James Cleverly as Home Secretary.

Ms Braverman has been the UK's Home Secretary since Mr Sunak became Prime Minister. Ms Braverman has taken a hard line on immigration, protesters, police and homelessness.

Observers say Prime Minister Sunak's decision to bring back Mr Cameron is likely to please moderate Conservatives who are dissatisfied with the current government 's far-right policies on immigration, police and housing.

Notably, Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt will remain in his position in this major cabinet reshuffle despite disagreements with Prime Minister Sunak on the budget issue./.
