Dalat is in the rainy season, especially at night. Many tourists complain about having to stay in the hotel, partly because of the cold, partly because of the sticky, uncomfortable feeling.
Don't let the tour disband every time it rains.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Thanh (a resident of Da Lat City), the places that attract a lot of people and tourists at night in Da Lat are mainly concentrated around Xuan Huong Lake such as Lam Vien Square, Da Lat night market, Hoa Binh area, and the lakeside park.
"Many tourists come to Da Lat because they like to enjoy the cool air, walk around and eat some hot food at night. But when it rains, Da Lat will be even colder, the roads are slippery so few people want to go out, and the shops are also deserted" - Mr. Thanh said.
Walking around Xuan Huong Lake on the morning of September 28, the young couple Ngoc Han and Quang Hung (from Ho Chi Minh City) shared that during the day, Da Lat has many beautiful places to visit, but at night they don't know anything except Da Lat night market, Lam Vien Square, Xuan Huong Lake because many places are closed. Da Lat night market is too crowded, outside the traffic is quite chaotic; inside, besides dishes such as grilled rice paper, grilled sweet potatoes, soy milk, woolen clothes, fruits... there is nothing special.
Therefore, these two tourists strongly agree with the city building night streets, food streets, and walking streets. However, the new streets need to be unique to Da Lat, not mass-produced or made exactly like other places. "Except for a few branded stores, no one is sure about the quality of goods and prices in Da Lat night market. Occasionally, there are scenes of local forces driving to clear away street vendors encroaching on the sidewalks, which is quite chaotic. When it rains, you can only take shelter or go back to the hotel, you can't go anymore" - Mr. Hung shared his experience.
In addition to the night market, Da Lat plans to build more night streets to develop tourism.
Need cooperation between city and business
Mr. Tran Quang Tu, Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee, said that the city has assigned Ward 1 and Ward 4 People's Committees to collect opinions from people in the area of Hoang Van Thu Lake - Tran Le Street and Hoa Binh Area - 3 Thang 2 Street - Truong Cong Dinh - Tang Bat Ho - Nguyen Chi Thanh. These two areas are expected to be turned into food streets and night streets. Da Lat City People's Committee calls on units and businesses with potential and experience in the field of night-time economy to participate in the project implementation.
Some coffee shop owners in the Hoang Van Thu Lake area are excited about the plan to develop a food street and hope that this place will be more bustling. "I am looking forward to knowing the city's plan to renovate the shop to meet the requirements of doing business in the food street" - Ms. Thuy, the owner of a large coffee shop at the intersection of Tran Le Street - Hoang Van Thu Lake, happily said.
Mr. Tran Quoc Hung, Deputy General Director of Hoang Gia DL Joint Stock Company, has experienced many night market and night street models in several countries, especially in Singapore. He commented that these countries have organized systematically from the stages of fee collection, product sales, service operations, service style to handling arising problems. Meanwhile, Da Lat's night economy is still quite small, unprofessional, and lacks connection with tourism businesses.
"Da Lat has beautiful scenery and special weather, so developing the night-time economy is an extremely correct policy and should have been implemented early. The night-time economy encourages tourists to spend more, but if it rains and they run away like now, it is not good. Of course, Da Lat needs to create night streets and night markets with its own brand, based on its potential advantages, not taking models from other places and applying them" - Mr. Hung said and said he is ready to participate if he receives a call from Lam Dong province as well as Da Lat city.
Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Vice Chairman of Da Lat City People's Committee, said that with the night-time economic model, the city hopes to create more unique services and products, bearing the Da Lat brand. The models will help people increase their income, contributing to the city's socio-economic development.
"Tourists usually go to tourist attractions and then return to the hotel. Now, through night services, tourists will have the opportunity to interact with the gentle, elegant, and hospitable style of Da Lat people," Mr. Son shared.
Need more than 80% of people agree
According to the decision of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, if more than 80% of people agree, an implementation plan will be developed after consulting with people in the night market and food street area.
The State encourages and facilitates existing businesses to upgrade and expand their night-time operations to meet demand. Local residents can invest in their own businesses or rent space to organizations and individuals to operate in these models.
