On October 30, the People's Council of Da Nang City approved the investment policy for a drainage project from Phu Loc canal to Nguyen Tat Thanh street (on Phung Hung street), in Lien Chieu and Thanh Khe districts.

Phu Loc canal is the main drainage route that covers the basins of Lien Chieu, Cam Le and Thanh Khe districts (Da Nang airport basin) with a total drainage basin of about more than 3km2.

Due to the complicated and extreme weather conditions in recent years, especially the last two years, the amount of rainwater flowing into Phu Loc canal is very large, sometimes overflowing the canal banks.

To reduce the flow load for Phu Loc canal to minimize flooding for areas, especially the city center, it is extremely necessary and urgent to divert the Phu Loc canal to quickly drain rainwater into Da Nang Bay.

The project will build a new drainage line under Phung Hung Street, connecting from Hoa Minh Canal to the outlet on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street to reduce the load on Phu Loc Canal.

The project will arrange sluice gates upstream of the sewer line and manholes along the sewer line. The upstream and downstream areas of the newly constructed sewer line have a system to separate, collect wastewater and transfer the flow to Phu Loc Wastewater Treatment Plant.

To ensure that wastewater does not overflow into the sea during the dry season, the project adds a wastewater separation well at the intersection of Nguyen Tat Thanh and Phung Hung.

The total expected investment of the project is more than 145 billion VND, implementation period is 2024-2027.

This drainage line to reduce the load on Phu Loc canal is expected to reduce the risk of flooding in the flooded areas of Hoa Minh, Hoa Khanh Nam, and Me Suot street (Lien Chieu district).
