Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City said that in the context of "soft power" increasingly becoming an important criterion of national and urban competitiveness, culture is not only a spiritual foundation but also a new development resource, a creative energy to promote the economy and enhance the position of each locality.
The major orientations of the Party and the State, from Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW, Directive No. 30/CT-TTg to most recently Decision 2486 of the Prime Minister approving the Strategy for the development of Vietnam's cultural industries to 2030, with a vision to 2045 - have affirmed the urgent need to develop the cultural industry in a professional, modern, rich-in-identity and deeply integrated direction.
According to Ms. Hanh, the cultural industry, with 10 key sectors, is identified as an important economic pillar based on creativity, technology and cultural values. This is also a promising new development space, in which Da Nang is seen as a locality with potential and advantages to break through.

"With the goal of becoming the leading cultural and artistic center in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions, and striving to be among the three major cultural industrial centers of the country, in recent years, the city has made efforts to invest in perfecting the system of cultural institutions, expanding creative spaces and organizing many regional and international events.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, and tours to experience heritage - craft villages - street art have created a unique character, contributing to shaping the cultural brand of Da Nang in the map of creative cities. Preserving heritage associated with contemporary creativity has helped traditional values spread more strongly in modern life," Ms. Hanh informed.
However, Ms. Hanh also said that the city must frankly acknowledge limitations such as the small scale of cultural industry enterprises; lack of leading brands; creative human resources not keeping up with demand; mechanisms, markets and creative environments not really favorable.
These are the bottlenecks that need to be resolved with innovative vision, appropriate policies and the joint efforts of the whole society.
