Dien Bien TV - Held for the first time in Vietnam on the largest scale in Southeast Asia, the 1st Jet Surfing Tournament in 2025 in Muong Lay town took place in the first days of the new year, attracting a large number of tourists to watch and experience this new and unique sport .

Jet surfing is an extreme sport, unlike traditional surfing that relies on the thrust of waves and wind, jet surfing is improved with an internal propulsion engine. Therefore, jet boards can run in any water area with a depth of over 50cm with a maximum speed of 60km/h. With the strength of the poetic Da River, after many surveys and evaluations, Muong Lay town was chosen by the Silver Surf Jet Board Club Vietnam as the venue for the 1st Jet Surfing Competition in 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Trung, Head of the Silver Surf Vietnam Jet Board Club said: “ We have been to Muong Lay twice before, and we feel that the country and people here are very beautiful, so the whole club discussed a lot to coordinate with the government to organize a race in Muong Lay, Dien Bien . Here, I find the atmosphere is wonderful, the water surface where we play is very clean, beautiful, calm and extremely suitable for jet board surfing.”

The tournament gathered more than 30 athletes from provinces and cities across the country. The athletes raced 1km, starting from the Mechanical Boat Station towards Nam Can Bridge to Hoc Village and back. Coming to Muong Lay town for the first time to participate in the largest tournament in Southeast Asia, the athletes were well prepared to compete and perform for the people and tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Kiet, Silver Surf Vietnam Jet Board Club said: “ We have had time to prepare very carefully, the training issues are also like focusing on this tournament. Today the weather is very nice, the water surface is very calm, seeing the people today is very happy.”

Although it has only been introduced to Vietnam in recent years, jet surfing has quickly become popular among young people. The successful hosting of the first jet surfing competition in Dien Bien province is expected to open up opportunities to exploit the potential and inherent advantages of the locality, becoming an attractive highlight to attract tourism to Muong Lay town./.
