Attending the ceremony were Comrade Tran Quoc Vuong, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat; Comrade Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Comrade Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Party Central Committee member, Vice President; Comrade Hoang Binh Quan, Party Central Committee member, Head of the Central External Relations Commission, along with leaders of ministries, departments, branches and localities of Vietnam, representatives of the Liaison Committee of Vietnamese Volunteer Soldiers and Military Experts in Laos. The delegation of Cao Bang province came to pay New Year's greetings to the Lao Embassy, led by Ms. Trieu Thi Kieu Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
On the Lao side, there were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane, officials and staff of the Embassy and a large number of Lao students working and studying in Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Thongsavanh Phomvihane expressed his gratitude to the senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, ministries, departments and branches at the central and local levels for attending the traditional Bunpimay New Year Ceremony in 2019.
Reviewing the great and extremely important achievements in all fields that the Lao people have achieved in the past year, Ambassador Thongsavanh Phomvihane emphasized that the contributions to those achievements cannot be without sincere cooperation, valuable, effective and timely assistance, and wholehearted support from the Party, State and people of our brotherly Vietnam. This is a manifestation of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam, founded by President Ho Chi Minh , President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong, and cultivated by generations of leaders of the two Parties, two States and people of the two countries.

Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong emphasized that with the awareness, responsibility and revolutionary sentiment of pure communist soldiers, the Party, State and people of Vietnam always respect the history and practice of exemplary international relations, rare in the world in the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
Because this special cooperative, friendly and united relationship has been forged through many challenges, forged with the efforts, sweat, tears and blood of many generations of cadres, soldiers, heroes, martyrs, armed forces, volunteer troops and people of the two countries, so that this friendship has become a priceless asset of the two peoples, a model in international relations.

Permanent Vice President of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong expressed her belief that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party headed by General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachith, the Lao Party, State, National Assembly, Government and people will continue to steadfastly overcome all difficulties and challenges, firmly step on the path of building and developing a peaceful and prosperous country, successfully completing the 5-year plan and preparing for the 11th National Party Congress.
Permanent Vice President of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State and people of Vietnam will always work together with the Party, State and people of the Lao ethnic groups to preserve and promote the tradition of special solidarity and friendship, further promote the comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples to new heights, with practical effectiveness, meeting the aspirations and trust of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in the region and the world.
Bunpimay is one of the biggest traditional festivals in Laos, taking place from April 14-16 every year. During Bunpimay, people splash water to pray for luck and peace for the whole year, with the meaning of bringing coolness and prosperity to all things, warmth, happiness, and purifying people's lives./.
