
On the morning of October 14, the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Multilateral Trade Policy Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) to organize the workshop "ASEAN Economic Community and taking advantage of commitments in ASEAN Free Trade Agreements of which Vietnam is a member".
The workshop attracted more than 200 delegates from state management agencies, industry associations, economic experts and the business community, especially export and manufacturing enterprises oriented towards the ASEAN market.

Mr. Le Trieu Dung, Director of the Multilateral Trade Policy Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) informed: After 30 years since Vietnam joined ASEAN, it has achieved remarkable achievements, especially in economic, trade and export relations... In 2024, Vietnam's export value to ASEAN reached nearly 36.9 billion USD, an increase of 13.3% compared to 2023, accounting for 9.09% of Vietnam's total export value to the world . In the first 9 months of 2025, export turnover from Vietnam to ASEAN reached 28.5 billion USD, an increase of 2.8% over the same period in 2024.
Within the framework of the program, delegates were updated by experts from the Department of Multilateral Trade Policy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) on information about the ASEAN Economic Community; the implementation, review, upgrading and negotiation of FTAs within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners; summarizing new points in the Rules of Origin of goods of FTAs within ASEAN, thereby improving the efficiency of utilizing FTAs, contributing to promoting the export turnover of Hai Phong city; recommendations for the leather, footwear, textile and garment industries and other products exported to the ASEAN market...
Delegates also listened to experts share practical experiences, especially solutions to help Hai Phong enterprises in particular and Vietnam in general improve their competitiveness, effectively utilize incentives, rules of origin and market opening commitments in ASEAN FTAs.

Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cong Han said: In 2024 and 2025, the value of Hai Phong's export turnover to the ASEAN region will account for about 10 - 12% of the city's total export turnover, with an average growth of 16%. The main export items of Hai Phong enterprises to the ASEAN market include textiles and garments; footwear; electronic products and electronic components; machinery, equipment and spare parts. This result is a testament to the efforts of the Hai Phong business community in taking advantage of opportunities from ASEAN FTAs of which Vietnam is a member.
