Ensuring health and cold protection for students during severe cold weather

(Haiphong.gov.vn) – The city's Departmentof Education and Training has just issued Document 3633/SGDĐT-VP on ensuring health and safety. Cold prevention for students, in the context that the Northern region is welcoming a strong cold spell, which is considered the strongest since the beginning of winter.

Accordingly, regarding the Regulations on school holidays, Preschool and Primary school students are allowed to stay home when the outdoor temperature is 10 ºC or lower ; Secondary school students are allowed to stay home when the outdoor temperature is 7 ºC. or below ; (For high school age students, there is no regulation). Parents and heads of educational units should proactively monitor information about outdoor temperature in Hai Phong city, broadcast on the Weather Forecast bulletin, Good Morning program - Vietnam Television (VTV1) at 6:00 am every day, based on the forecasted temperature to decide to let students stay home from school according to the above regulations.

During the period of severe cold weather, the Department of Education and Training requests the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training and educational institutions under their management; heads of educational units to promptly inspect and repair classrooms, functional rooms, boarding rooms, dining rooms, etc. to ensure that they are windproof, have enough light and keep students warm. Kindergartens and primary schools should pay special attention to ensuring that there is hot water to care for and serve students.

For boarding schools, special attention should be paid to ensuring adequate food and clean food, a reasonable diet; hot food and drinks; warm lunch breaks; adequate preparation of medicines for school health services. Do not organize outdoor activities for students; ensure students' health when organizing outdoor physical education hours; remind students to wear enough warm clothes; do not require students to wear uniforms on cold days.

Clearly announce regulations on school closures due to cold weather to all students and parents through information channels: the unit's electronic information portal, social networking platforms (Zalo, Facebook...); school, ward, and commune loudspeakers; post notices outside the school gate, etc. Schools organize online learning or instruct students to self-study and review at home during school closures due to cold weather.

In case students still come to school, the school must assign and arrange teachers and management staff to take care of students carefully and safely. During the days off due to cold weather, the school maintains a staff on duty to ensure all administrative activities take place normally.
