Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery is a Cistercian monastery, located in Phu Son commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province; 15km from Cuc Phuong National Park.
Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery is a monastery of the Cistercian ascetic order. The monks of this order perfect their spiritual life through the path of contemplation and sacrifice; at the same time, they pray and sacrifice for the salvation of pagans. For that purpose, Cistercian monks are often located in remote, deserted places, in the wilderness.

Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery is an architectural complex located near the quiet mountains and forests; in which, the church was built in 1939. The monastery is located on the West - East axis, designed in Gothic style. That is the reason why the monastery is likened to "miniature Europe".

The pillars are designed into small, symmetrical towers, 64m long, an impressive highlight of Chau Son Monastery. The surrounding wall is divided into two upper and lower floors; harmoniously decorated with window panels; the outside is made of bricks, the inside is made of wooden glass doors.

Chau Son Monastery is considered one of the famous architectural works in Ninh Binh. The most majestic and magnificent feature is the 21m high white dome in the heart of the church.

Chau Son Holy Mother Monastery is 35km from Ninh Binh City and about 100km from Hanoi. The monastery is not a tourist destination, but it is still open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays after mass (morning from 8am to 10:30am; afternoon from 2:30pm to 4:30pm) - except during Lent (March) and retreats (around early August).
The monastery also does not charge a fee, even for large and small vehicles parked on the grounds.
