Experience defeats youth
The draw to meet host boxer Yang Yuxi in the first round of the World Games Muay Thai 57kg quarter-finals was not an easy challenge for Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat. Although in reality, Vietnamese boxers are considered stronger and have more experience, in any sports tournament, few people choose to face host athletes early because they are easily affected psychologically and under terrible pressure from the audience.
However, the representative of Vietnam competing in the 12th World Games in Chengdu (China) this time was not shaken. Unlike many other big names, Duy Nhat is considered a martial artist with nerves of steel in the world martial arts village. He is not only brave in Muay Thai but also proved that when he had time to switch to freestyle martial arts, he rarely encountered any obstacles. That practical experience has helped Duy Nhat always know himself and his opponent, choosing a suitable fighting style for himself against any opponent.

Coach Giap Trung Thang said: "When we drew lots to meet the Chinese boxer, my team and I determined that this would be the biggest obstacle on Duy Nhat's path to defending the gold medal. The opponent was younger, stronger, more physically fit, and entered the match with great enthusiasm using a preemptive attack style. Therefore, Duy Nhat and I agreed to choose a calm style of play, not getting caught up in the opponent's style of play, proactively dodging and waiting for the opponent's weakness to launch technical attacks, which is using elbows and knees to quickly attack from both sides. At the same time, we used sharp kicks to the Chinese boxer's abdomen.

After the first round, we continued to use this style of fighting because Yang Yuxi was eager to get the points back, so he rushed forward very quickly, attacking fiercely to force Duy Nhat to show his weakness. But Duy Nhat still mainly dodged the attacks and when his opponent was out of breath and his defense was exposed, our fighter immediately launched knee and press attacks, leaving no space for him to punch and kick quickly. Towards the end of the round, when his opponent felt he could not find a weak point to attack, that was when the Vietnamese fighter launched the decisive attacks. Thanks to hitting the right points, Duy Nhat won again in this round and had an advantage when entering round 3 to continue maintaining the defensive counterattack style and winning the final score 20-17."
Determined to defeat Ukrainian boxer in semi-finals
According to coach Giap Trung Thang, his biggest concern was that before the match Duy Nhat had to lose more than 7 kg, from 64 kg to 57 kg to fit the weight class, which also affected his health to some extent. However, Duy Nhat showed that he played with great concentration, was good at fighting and had prepared very seriously, knowing how to distribute his strength reasonably to win with his "head" against the home boxer. This victory brought Duy Nhat into the semi-finals on August 9.

Duy Nhat's opponent will be Ukrainian boxer Shelesko Dmytro, who defeated Afghan boxer in the quarterfinals on the afternoon of August 8. Coach Giap Trung Thang commented: "The Ukrainian boxer has a very powerful left leg, long arm span, quick and decisive punches, and especially both punchers are very strong. My team and I have also watched our opponent and see that we need to lock this boxer's left leg. If we can do that, plus promote Duy Nhat's very strong right kicks and with a relaxed mentality after defeating the host, we hope we will have a good match in the semi-finals, determined to win the right to play in the final match."
