This is an activity within the program "Selecting and creating rice and glutinous rice varieties that are resistant to salinity, flooding, drought, pests, and have high quality and yield to serve climate change".
This summer-autumn crop, the Mekong Delta High-Tech Agricultural Research Institute is testing 103 rice varieties, mainly those bred by the institute. In addition to researching varieties that are resistant to pests, diseases, acid sulfate soils, and salinity, this year the institute is also focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
At the workshop, delegates including farmers, agricultural officials and business representatives in the Mekong Delta region evaluated and found promising rice varieties, and proposed that the institute continue to put them into trial production towards mass production, contributing to ensuring production efficiency and increasing profits for farmers in the current climate change conditions.
Through observation and evaluation, delegates selected a number of varieties with good characteristics, suitable for production conditions such as: HATRI 20, HATRI 25, HATRI 90, HATRI 144, HATRI 193, HATRI 722, HATRI 930.
