On May 28, Dong Nai Provincial Police said they had just coordinated with the Criminal Police Department (C02 - Ministry of Public Security ), Hanoi City Police, Ho Chi Minh City Police and police from Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Gia Lai provinces to destroy a virtual currency exchange, scamming and luring tens of thousands of people to invest with a total amount of nearly 10,000 billion VND.
Accordingly, after more than 200 days of establishing an investigation project, on May 19, Dong Nai Provincial Police coordinated with C02 and police from the above provinces and cities to organize many working groups to simultaneously control and arrest 5 suspects.
Among them, the two leaders were identified as Nguyen Quoc Hung (41 years old) and Bui Thi Thanh Nga (34 years old, both living in Hanoi ).
Through investigation, the suspects confessed that around February 2023, Hung hired someone to write a software about a virtual currency called Matrix Chain for 20,000 USDT (USDT is a cryptocurrency, converted to about 520 million VND), then invited Nga to contribute capital to do business.
The method is to call for participants in the Matrix Chain virtual currency project; each participant must pay 1 USDT (equivalent to about 26,000 VND).
To attract players, Hung and Nga regularly organize training for leaders and organize many promotional events, creating communities of clubs and groups on social networking platforms with the commitment of "super big profits, super big commissions".
Tens of thousands of people participated, investing nearly 10,000 billion VND
According to the police, Hung and Nga's virtual currency exchange attracted tens of thousands of participants with more than 138,000 registered accounts, with deposits of more than 394 million USDT (equivalent to nearly 10,000 billion VND).
After players deposited money, Hung and Nga used many tricks to appropriate the money. The two suspects used about 40% of the stolen money to pay the leaders and 5% to promote the currency.
Hung and Nga kept the remaining 55%, then bought real estate including apartments, houses, land in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen... all given to Nga and Nga's parents.
Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Dong Nai Province is urgently investigating, prosecuting and handling the suspects according to the provisions of law.
