According to the report at the National Conference on the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries by the Ministry of Culture , Sports and Tourism, the production value of Vietnam's cultural industries in the 2018-2022 period is estimated to contribute an average of VND1,059 trillion (equivalent to about USD44 billion).

Of which, the added value of cultural industries contributing to the economy in 2018 was estimated at 5.82%; in 2019 it was estimated at 6.02%; in 2020 and 2021, due to the impact of the pandemic, the figures decreased to only about 4.32% and 3.92%; by 2022, the industries had begun to recover and the contribution value had an estimated growth of 4.04%.

Vietnam aims for cultural industry to contribute 7% of GDP.

Among them, the film industry tends to develop rapidly with an average production value increasing by 8.03%/year. The revenue from cinema in 2019 reached over 4.1 trillion VND (about 178 million USD), Vietnamese films accounted for about 1.15 trillion VND. In Vietnam, young audiences account for 80%-90% of the market share of moviegoers, this is a great potential for developing domestic cinema.

The tourism sector has recorded some positive developments after a long period of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. By 2022, total revenue from tourists is estimated to reach VND495 trillion, up 2.75 times over the same period, with domestic tourists reaching 101.3 million.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached more than 9.97 million, exceeding the 2023 plan; domestic visitors reached 98.7 million; total revenue from tourists reached 582.6 trillion VND...

The fine arts, photography and exhibition industries also saw strong growth in the 2018-2022 period. In 2022 alone, there were approximately 27,120 workers in this sector; the indicators increased steadily over the years and were less affected by external factors.

In 2021-2022, the country had 2,669 painters, sculptors and 2,456 photographers. The number of artists working in the fields of fine arts and photography is quite large, becoming an important force contributing to the creation of creative artistic products.

Other fields in the cultural industry such as advertising, architecture, design, publishing, fashion, television and radio, handicrafts... have also shown improvement in recent years, affirming that our State is on the right track.

Notably, advertising revenue in 2022 is expected to reach about 2.192 billion USD, with the revenue growth rate of the Vietnamese advertising market reaching 12.7%, ranking 2nd out of 11 countries in terms of growth rate. Currently, the whole country has about 3,000 businesses operating in the advertising sector.

Aiming to contribute 7% of GDP

Reporting at the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that in the period from 2018-2022, the production value of Vietnam's cultural industries is estimated to reach 1,059 trillion VND (44 billion USD).

"Comparing our statistics after 7 years with the general situation in the world, we can see that Vietnam is a mid-level country in terms of cultural industry development and still has a lot of room for development," Minister Nguyen Van Hung said.

However, the report of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also pointed out that investment resources for culture are still scattered, not focusing on developing some specialized fields with advantages and potential. Human resources in cultural industries are still lacking in quantity and quality.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung said that the content and form of products and services in cultural industries have not really exploited all the indigenous cultural characteristics to create uniqueness and distinctiveness. The coordination mechanism between ministries, branches, localities, organizations and individuals operating in the field of cultural industries is not regular, tight and synchronous...

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung pointed out a number of reasons why the cultural industry in Vietnam has not developed to its full potential.

The shortcomings and limitations stem from the fact that the cultural industry is large in scope and many agencies and units participate in management, so there is a lack of comprehensive development solutions. In addition, financial investment in culture has been gradually increased but is still lower than the demand.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism aims for cultural industries to contribute 7% of GDP and continue to contribute to the socio-economic development of the whole country, build and develop diverse and high-quality cultural industrial products and services, form key cultural industrial centers such as in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City and shape, expand and develop a network of creative cities across the country (Quang Ninh, Quang Nam, Kien Giang, Hue, Da Lat...).

Some solutions proposed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism include: Thoroughly grasping the Party's viewpoints and policies, the State's legal policies on the role and position of the cultural industry; continuing to research and perfect the legal framework to create a legal basis and "unlock" resources.

The leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also proposed solutions to develop the cultural industry and cultural services on the basis of effectively applying new values and achievements of culture, science, engineering and technology of the world through exchange, cooperation, joint ventures and associations with countries with developed cultural industries such as: Korea, Japan, China...

This morning (December 22), the National Conference on the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries will be held at the Government Office. This is the first time the Conference on the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries has been held on a national scale. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha will chair and direct the Conference.

The conference is of special significance at a time when Vietnam's cultural industry is developing strongly, becoming the "golden goose" of many world economies.

At the Conference, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will report on the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries to 2020, with a vision to 2030, focusing on evaluating the results achieved in the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries.
