Historic day mark

50 years have passed, but the memory of the day of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is still the pride and glory of the nation. The day of peace and reunification is always remembered in the hearts of every Vietnamese person. Along with the joy of the nation, that historical milestone is even more profound in the minds of special people when they have their own joy.

Cherishing each 35-year Party badge, each 45-year Party badge, and each certificate of merit neatly stored in a glass cabinet, Ms. Ly Thi Phin in Nam Sat 2 residential group, Bac Ha town, Bac Ha district could not help but be moved when looking back at the past 50 years. Each souvenir is a milestone for her struggle and effort for nearly her entire life. 50 years of the country's joy are also the same number of years that Ms. Ly Thi Phin has proudly stood in the ranks of the Party.

Carrying the resilient blood of the Red Dao people, she grew up in the remote land of Nam Det, and after finishing 4th grade, she went to study medicine. After finishing her studies, she returned to Bac Ha and worked at the district Women's Union from 1965 to 1975. When she started working for the union, she was just 20 years old, and her first son was just 7 months old.

“Every time I go to work, I carry my child on my back. It’s hard work, the road is difficult, but the job helps me grow up and see myself as useful to society,” Ms. Phin shared.

On the morning of April 30, 1975, many cadres were present at the Hoang A Tuong mansion yard, cheering and dancing to celebrate the moment of victory. In the afternoon of the same day, the Party cell organized the admission of Ly Thi Phin to the Party. Ms. Phin recalled: “Both celebrating the victory of liberating the South and unifying the country, and being proud to be in the ranks of the Party, that was a day I will never forget. April 30, 2025 will be a special milestone, when I receive the 50-year Party membership badge.”

Born and raised in a family with a rich tradition, her mother is Mrs. Trieu Mui Pham - the first female Dao ethnic Party cell secretary of Bac Ha district. Her children and grandchildren have grown up working in many units, holding important positions in agencies and party organizations.

After working in many units, in 1999, Ms. Phin held the position of Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Bac Ha district. With many efforts and struggles, Ms. Ly Thi Phin was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for her many achievements in work from 1996 - 1998, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

That is the proud sharing of Mr. Nguyen Manh Lam, Bao Vinh village, Bao Ha commune, Bao Yen district. On April 30, 1975, after the joyful moment of hearing the news of victory, the whole family doubled their happiness when welcoming a new member. "In the past, my father used to joke with my mother that April 30 was not supposed to be the day I was born, but because of the joy of victory, my mother danced, so I was born prematurely on that special day," Mr. Lam recounted.

When we arrived at his house, Mr. Lam had just parked his car in front of the door. The car stood out with patriotic decals. They read “Celebrating 50 years of the liberation of the South and national reunification”, a red flag with a yellow star, and a tank entering the Independence Palace…

“Since the beginning of April, I have ordered the image of the national flag to stick on my car. These days, patriotism is rising even more and I want to join the atmosphere towards the great victory day with the whole country,” Mr. Lam shared.

For Mr. Lam, having a birthday coinciding with the great victory of the nation is an honor and pride. “I feel happy because every year on my birthday, my children, grandchildren, and friends are present, because that is the day everyone has a day off. I also do not need to remember my birthday or count my age, because preparing for this day, the whole country is bustling and happy.”

Scrolling through each photo posted on her personal Facebook page, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ha - Mr. Lam's daughter proudly said: "Posting photos of the whole family wishing my father a happy birthday has become a habit of mine for many years now. Regularly, every year, on April 30, we capture meaningful moments with my father, like an important milestone because the number of years of peace the country has had is the same as my father's age."

Flipping through the family photo album with her mother, Ms. Le Quynh Trang, currently working at the Organizing Committee of Bao Thang District Party Committee, could not help but be moved. The family carefully preserved the photos from when she was 1 year old until she grew up.

During her childhood, every year Quynh Trang's whole neighborhood celebrated her birthday, and her parents hired a photographer to capture every meaningful moment.

On April 30, 1975, the country was unified. 22 years later, at exactly 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 1997, Quynh Trang cried out at birth. Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa - Quynh Trang's mother recalled: "The day before I was born, there was a storm and trees fell down. I had a stomachache all day, then went to the hospital to wait for the birth. My husband was on a business trip far away, so my relatives were very worried."

“Everyone was very happy when mother and child were safe and sound, Trang was born on the anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. My family still jokingly said that even if my parents were poor, every year I would be able to celebrate my birthday with the whole country and have a holiday to celebrate my birthday with me,” Ms. Hoa shared.

Being aware of her special birthday, Trang has been studious and actively participated in school and class activities since she was a child. She has been an excellent student for 12 years and an exemplary student for 4 years at the University of Social Labor. Trang was also honored to be admitted to the Party while still a student.
