During the visit, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong and Ambassador Pham Hung Tam greeted Governor Barbara Baker and had working meetings with leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources; Ministry of State Development; Ministry of Innovation, Science and Digital Economy ; Ministry of Arts and Heritage; Mayor of Hobart Anna Reynolds (capital of Tasmania) and had a discussion with the leadership of the University of Tasmania.

At the meetings, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam assessed that after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024, cooperation between cities and localities of Vietnam and Australia will have more favorable conditions to develop strongly. Accordingly, Vietnam sees Tasmania as a partner with a lot of potential to promote cooperation in areas such as education , energy, sustainable development, trade, investment and tourism.
Regarding educational cooperation, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam expressed his hope to further promote cooperation programs between the University of Tasmania and Vietnamese educational institutions, including vocational training.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also proposed that the state government continue to identify Vietnam as a priority partner in the Tasmanian State Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the 2026-2030 period.

Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong said that based on similar factors in environment, historical and cultural values, Hue City and Hobart City in particular, as well as Tasmania State in general, have the potential to enhance cultural exchange activities, people-to-people exchanges, educational cooperation and tourism; proposed that the University of Tasmania promote appropriate cooperation activities with Hue University and suggested that the state government promote cooperation activities in investment, trade, science and technology and clean energy.
President Nguyen Van Phuong and Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also shared the proposal for the possibility of establishing a cooperative relationship between Hue and the city of Hobart or the state of Tasmania.
On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong invited Governor Barbara Baker, Mayor of Hobart Anna Reynolds and the State Minister of Arts and Heritage to visit Hue and send a delegation to attend the Hue International Arts Festival Week scheduled to be held in mid-2026.

Tasmanian government leaders at all levels highly appreciate and attach importance to cooperation with Vietnam in general and Vietnamese localities in particular; hope that the cooperative relationship between Tasmania and Vietnamese localities will be strongly and comprehensively promoted in all fields on the basis of mutual benefit.
Both Governor Barbara Baker and Mayor Anna Reynolds warmly welcomed Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong and the delegation to visit, agreeing to promote cultural, people-to-people, tourism and trade exchanges with Hue city.
Tasmania's leaders also appreciated the contributions of the Vietnamese community to building and developing a multicultural society in Tasmania.

Leaders of Tasmanian ministries and sectors said that on the basis of identifying Vietnam as one of the priority partners in the state's Development Strategy for the period 2019-2025, cooperation between Tasmania and Vietnamese localities has continuously expanded in the fields of trade, investment, education, high technology and human resource development.
Two-way trade between Tasmania and Vietnam is expected to increase by an average of 15% per year, reaching AUD 340 million by 2024, making Vietnam Tasmania’s fifth largest export market. Vietnam is currently the sixth largest source of students in the state.
Many Vietnamese enterprises such as Vingroup, TH True Milk, VitaDairy... are implementing investment projects to develop golf courses, eco-resorts and dairy farms in Tasmania.
The Tasmanian State Growth Department said the state also has the strength of being Australia's leading maritime training center, and has high expertise in agricultural research, clean energy, metal production, high-end food, beverages, salmon and specialty fruits such as cherries..., on that basis, it wishes to continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in general and Hue city in particular.

Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong also chaired a discussion on cooperation between the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association in Tasmania (VITA) and businesses of Hue City accompanying the delegation.
VITA Chairman and CEO of TPS Energy, Mr. Tien Ho and VITA members reported to City Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong and Ambassador Pham Hung Tam on the activities of VITA Association, with over 60 members in many different business sectors.
Mr. Tien Ho presented business development directions and proposed cooperation opportunities in the coming time, and said that he will strive to cooperate with Hue city on the basis of existing business relationships in the area.

On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam and VITA Chairman Tien Ho also visited the art gallery of the artist couple Tran Xuan Thao and Nguyen Thi Tuyet Suong; one of the state's largest art galleries and the only art gallery of the Vietnamese community in Tasmania; helping to promote art, the country and people of Vietnam; welcomed and highly appreciated by local leaders and people.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also met with a number of other prominent representatives of the Vietnamese community in Tasmania, encouraging them to turn towards their homeland and support the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Australia in general and Tasmania in particular.
