Further promoting Vietnam - Slovakia defense cooperation

On November 18, General Secretary To Lam received Slovakian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák; emphasizing that this is an important and practical activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950 - 2025), contributing to further deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Slovakia. General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Slovakia has always been a loyal and close friend of Vietnam; thanked the Government and people of Slovakia for always supporting and uniting with the people of Vietnam over the past 75 years.

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the results of the talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Robert Kaliňák and General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense; affirmed that defense cooperation between the two countries, implemented on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2015, has achieved many positive results, becoming one of the important pillars of bilateral relations. General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides further promote cooperation in the fields of defense industry, military training, peacekeeping , etc.

On the basis of high political trust, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels; at the same time, enhance the effectiveness of existing consultation and cooperation mechanisms to promote the bilateral relationship to develop substantially, comprehensively and sustainably; at the same time, create favorable conditions for ministries, branches and businesses of the two countries to connect and expand cooperation, making economics and science and technology a pillar in the bilateral relationship, further promoting cooperation in culture, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam conveyed his regards and invitation to Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam.

On the same afternoon, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Vincent Clerc, Director of APMoller - Maersk Group (Denmark). The General Secretary expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam - Denmark Comprehensive Partnership (established in 2013) and the Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries (established in November 2023), which are the driving force for the strong development of bilateral relations in all fields towards green and sustainable development.

The General Secretary stated that Vietnam focuses on developing infrastructure, including seaports with a green orientation to serve the goal of sustainable development. Recognizing the group's vision of building ports, green transportation, and welcoming the group's investment expansion plan in Vietnam in developing a green, smart seaport system, logistics services, etc., General Secretary To Lam encouraged the group to invest in areas such as maritime economy, etc., while affirming that Vietnam is always ready to facilitate foreign investors to develop logistics projects, connecting regions, large cities, industrial parks in the country and with the world; emphasizing that Vietnam is among the 20 economies with the largest international trade scale in the world and is promoting the development of synchronous, widespread and smooth transport infrastructure to increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy.

On the morning of November 18, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, presided over the welcoming ceremony for Mr. Robert Kaliňák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Slovakia, on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the talks after the welcoming ceremony, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam is steadfast in its "four no's" defense policy, wishing to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect for common interests, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. The General suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to promote defense cooperation commensurate with the good development and increasingly close relationship between the two countries, focusing on the following areas: exchanging delegations, establishing cooperation mechanisms to enhance mutual understanding and exchanging measures to promote cooperation; hoping that Mr. Robert Kaliňák will pay attention and soon send a Slovakian defense attaché to Vietnam, acting as a bridge to help effectively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon by the two sides...
