Strengthening economic diplomacy to promote economic growth

(E-Portal) On the evening of July 18, 2024, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired an online conference with Vietnamese representative agencies abroad on promoting economic diplomacy to boost economic growth in the last 6 months of 2024 and the following years.

Attending the conference were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang; representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, central agencies; leaders of provinces and centrally run cities; representatives of enterprises and leaders of 94 Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.

Attending at the Quang Tri bridge point were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam; representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the first 6 months of 2024, economic diplomacy work has been implemented methodically and effectively, making substantial contributions to socio-economic development.

In 36 high-level foreign affairs activities since the beginning of the year, economic content continues to be the focus, bringing specific and substantial results, signing many commitments and cooperation agreements with partners. Contents on promoting the opening of export markets, negotiating FTAs, increasing the attraction of investment cooperation resources in new fields such as green economy, energy conversion, high-tech agriculture, tourism, labor, etc. are focused on integrating and concretizing into specific commitments and projects in high-level activities with major partners.

Economic diplomacy has actively supported connection, promotion, dissemination, and removal of trade barriers, fostering new directions such as the development of the Halal industry, thereby expanding the market for industries, sectors, localities, and businesses. In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam has reviewed and accelerated the implementation of key FTAs ​​that have a great impact on Vietnam.

The work of NGKT has also contributed to strengthening growth momentum through reviewing the implementation of recently signed trade agreements, upgrading existing agreements and proactively negotiating new agreements; actively supporting localities and enterprises to drastically remove obstacles in projects with the spirit of taking people, localities and enterprises as the center of service; institutionalizing management and coordination mechanisms in the implementation of NGKT has been strengthened to create a combined strength in NGKT work.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing the contents of improving the effectiveness of economic diplomacy work, focusing on reviewing international agreements and commitments; Ambassadors, Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, leaders of some ministries, branches and associations expressed their appreciation for the results of economic diplomacy work in recent times, contributing positively to the country's socio-economic development; proposed to the Government and the Prime Minister many solutions to remove all difficulties and obstacles, promoting economic diplomacy in the coming time to be more effective...

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the results of NGKT in the first 6 months of 2024 with outstanding results. On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister commended and welcomed the contributions of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, businesses and people to the country's socio-economic development in the first 6 months of the year.

The Prime Minister requested that the work of NGKT in the coming time should inherit and promote the achievements from the previous period and develop further, in accordance with the current world situation and period. In particular, it is necessary to continue to innovate thinking, change awareness, grasp the world and regional situation to advise appropriate and effective foreign policy.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the important role of new growth drivers directly related to Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, businesses, and people. Therefore, it is necessary to continue reviewing and grasping the world and regional situation to consolidate existing markets, expand new markets, strengthen brands, product quality, green development, and digital development.

The Prime Minister noted that localities and businesses should step up connections with representative agencies abroad, focus on developing, improving quality, and exporting strong, competitive products.

For the Government, ministries and branches continue to implement good state management, orient development, and plan raw material areas so that goods are competitive and in line with world trends; hope that Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will grasp information, respond effectively to policies, and closely coordinate domestically and internationally in the spirit of always being ready, closely, promptly, and effectively with the spirit of grasping the situation, closely following trends, resolutely implementing, and taking creative actions, bringing about practical results.
