Replicating high-tech application models
In fact, one of the achievements of the provincial agricultural sector in recent years is the application of water-saving irrigation technology, greenhouses and adaptive crop varieties. Accordingly, the agricultural sector focuses on promoting the development of high-tech agricultural production, smart agriculture associated with trade promotion of agricultural products to improve competitiveness. As a result, farmers in the province have been replicating effective high-tech application models. The whole province has 27,243 hectares of crops applying advanced, water-saving irrigation methods. In addition, most of the dragon fruit area applies compact bulbs and LED lights to handle off-season flowering; more than 42,000 hectares of rice apply advanced, water-saving farming methods...

According to the assessment of the provincial agricultural sector, high-tech agricultural models have been applied to many types of crops on a large scale and in large areas. These include production in greenhouses and net houses combined with water-saving irrigation systems on many types of crops such as apples, melons, vegetables of all kinds, etc. In addition, water-saving irrigation systems are applied in the direction of automation on different types of crops such as grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, seedless lemons, etc. with an area of 409.5 hectares. Or some localities have applied synchronous machinery to rice production with an area of 183 hectares from the sowing stage using transplanters, cluster seeders to the care process using a spraying system using unmanned aircraft.

Notably, in the past 2 years, the production model according to safety standards has been expanded to fruit trees, typically: The model of intensive cultivation of oranges according to VietGAP, scale of 1 ha in Tien Thanh commune, Phan Thiet city; the model of intensive cultivation of durian according to VietGAP, scale of 2 ha in Ham Minh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district... From there, it contributes to improving the yield and quality of agricultural products, forming specialized areas for dragon fruit and rice according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic standards along with models of growing melons, longans, and oranges using high technology, reducing dependence on weather, optimizing land resources, irrigation water, and limiting pests and diseases. Thanks to that, it improves economic efficiency, increases competitiveness, and meets the export market.

Maximize land potential
Also according to the provincial agricultural sector, up to now, Binh Thuan has expanded 42,000 hectares of rice and 27,240 hectares of upland crops applying water-saving cultivation and mechanization in production; 130 hectares of dragon fruit are certified organic; 9,500 hectares of dragon fruit meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
At the same time, the province has attracted 14 investment projects in the field of high-tech agriculture with an area of 1,146 hectares and a total investment of about 2,044 billion VND. In addition, many farms and cooperatives have invested in greenhouses, combined with the application of water-saving irrigation technology combined with fertilization and automation in the production of vegetables and fruits of all kinds that have achieved GlobalGAP and organic certification. The application of high technology in production has contributed to bringing the average value of harvested products per hectare of cultivated land to about 140 million VND/ha in 2024...

Thus, it can be said that in the past time, Binh Thuan has turned challenges into opportunities, rising strongly in high-tech agriculture. In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee on policies and mechanisms to strongly develop high-tech agricultural production. Maximize the potential of land, irrigation works and climate factors. Thereby, to review and plan areas for cultivation, livestock and aquaculture in accordance with natural conditions, production practices and market demand. The purpose is to develop a modern, sustainable, high-value-added agriculture that adapts to climate change and integrates internationally to develop agriculture into one of the three economic pillars of the province.
