Promoting gender equality communication, preventing and combating domestic violence

Identifying gender equality and eliminating gender-based violence as important tasks to build a healthy, harmonious and progressive social environment and relationships, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, in recent times, the Party Committee, government and localities in the province have promoted communication activities, raised awareness of gender equality, prevented and combated domestic violence, creating favorable conditions for women of all walks of life to rise up and actively participate in all areas of social life.

Women are increasingly actively participating in all areas of social life.

In Tan Thanh commune (Lam Ha district), the work of preventing and combating domestic violence has increasingly had many positive changes. Since the "Community Trusted Address" pilot model was established in 2022, no victims of domestic violence have come to take temporary shelter. Ms. Pham Thi Cam Dung - President of the Women's Union of the commune said: "Tan Thanh commune has 47.3% of the population being ethnic minorities. In recent years, the implementation of gender equality, care and protection of women and children has received the attention and direction of the Party Committee, the government and the participation of the entire political system, the awareness of the majority of people has been raised, the situation of domestic violence has tended to decrease significantly compared to previous years. According to statistics in the commune, from 2021 to now, the number of cases requiring intervention is 4 cases of family conflicts, after being explained and analyzed right and wrong, most of them have reconciled and stabilized their lives".

To raise people's awareness of domestic violence prevention, Tan Thanh commune has promoted propaganda on building happy families and preventing domestic violence in many forms such as: through loudspeakers, direct propaganda, propaganda through conferences, through village and residential group activities. In particular, the Commune Women's Union focuses on building models such as: Prevention of early marriage and consanguineous marriage; Community development group; Prevention of domestic violence; Community communication group; Community trusted address... Through the models, members are communicated about policies and legal regulations on marriage and family, prevention of domestic violence. Thanks to that, the majority of people have raised their awareness and actions on preventing domestic violence.

Together with localities, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also identified the work of propaganda, dissemination and education of laws on family and prevention and control of domestic violence, gender equality, protection and care of women and children as one of the important tasks. The Department has directed relevant agencies and units to carry out propaganda work in many diverse forms: on the system of billboards, banners, streamers, integrating propaganda content through cultural and artistic programs, seminars, competitions, and performances; regularly disseminate the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on family work and prevention and control of domestic violence, focusing on the occasion of International Day of Happiness (March 20), National Action Month on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence (June), Vietnamese Family Day (June 28), International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25). In addition, the Department regularly coordinates with mass media agencies at all levels to maintain columns and pages to convey news, articles, and instructions on the implementation of the Law on Gender Equality, gender equality goals, and domestic violence integrated into local socio -economic development; actively propagates and promotes good people, good deeds, and typical family models; at the same time, criticizes signs of moral degradation, lifestyle, and marital violence. Through these activities, there has been a change in awareness and action in preventing and combating domestic violence; raising people's awareness of the harms and consequences of domestic violence.

Along with that, the Departmentof Education and Training, the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs (formerly), the Provincial Women's Union, the Farmers' Association... have also proactively integrated the contents of preventing and combating domestic violence with the key tasks of the units and sectors and implemented many communication activities. Typically, the Provincial Women's Union has directed all levels of the Union to strengthen the implementation of activities to build happy families and promote propaganda work through mass media, fanpages, zalo... At the same time, continue to deploy models and campaigns to promote communication, raise awareness and skills to build happy families, say no to domestic violence for people. The Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs has maintained and expanded the Model of Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence on the basis of gender; directed localities to implement models and activities on gender equality, prevention and combating violence on the basis of gender.

Communication activities have been widely deployed throughout the province, contributing to raising awareness of Party committees and authorities at all levels in preventing and combating domestic violence, thereby effectively implementing the work of preventing and combating domestic violence, raising awareness of gender equality. According to statistics, in 2021, there were 175 cases of domestic violence in the province, in 2022 there were 115 cases, by 2023 it decreased to 92 cases, in 2024 it was 44 cases. Thereby, maintaining social order and stability, affirming the important role of the family in the community and society, building a prosperous, progressive, happy, civilized family, meeting the requirements of sustainable development of the country.
