On November 7, Hanoi Oncology Hospital celebrated its 25th anniversary and organized the Hanoi Cancer Prevention Conference 2025, with the participation of many domestic and international experts and reporters.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen acknowledged the continuous efforts of the staff and doctors of Hanoi Oncology Hospital over the past 25 years.

"From the early days when facilities were limited and human resources were few, the hospital has gradually grown, becoming one of the country's final-line cancer centers, the backbone of the cancer prevention network of the capital and the whole country," he said.

Currently, the hospital examines, diagnoses and treats nearly 300,000 patients each year, making an important contribution to public health care.

The leader of Hanoi Oncology Hospital said that cancer is increasing rapidly globally and is one of the biggest health problems today. According to GLOBOCAN 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) recorded 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million deaths each year.

In Vietnam, the number of cancer cases has nearly doubled in more than a decade, from 92,000 cases in 2010 to 180,000 cases in 2022. Notably, a large proportion of patients are only detected at a late stage, reducing treatment effectiveness and increasing medical costs.

The Deputy Minister said that the new context poses many challenges such as the number of cancer cases continuing to increase, disease patterns changing, while the need for personalized treatment and comprehensive care is increasing.

To meet that requirement, Mr. Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that the hospital focus on implementing the project to upgrade and develop the hospital into a high-tech center for cancer diagnosis and treatment, ensuring quality and safety.

He also requested the Hanoi Oncology Hospital to speed up the project to build a second facility, aiming towards a hospital - training - in-depth research model, with modern, green, and smart planning, meeting the health care needs of people in the capital and neighboring areas.

Also leads the Hanoi cancer prevention network to enhance screening, early detection and palliative care in the community.

Promote international cooperation, digital transformation, quality standardization according to international standards and develop high-quality medical human resources, contributing to building a humane and modern medicine.

At the ceremony, the President awarded the Second and Third Class Labor Medals to Hanoi Oncology Hospital and the hospital director - Dr. Bui Vinh Quang, recognizing outstanding achievements in research and application of advanced cancer treatment methods in the period 2020 - 2024.

"The hospital always takes the patient as the center, science as the foundation and humanity as the mission. Being awarded the Labor Medal is a great honor.

At the same time, it is the motivation for us to continue to innovate, improve professional quality, and bring hope and a better life to cancer patients," Mr. Quang shared.

The Hanoi Cancer Prevention Conference 2025 is also an opportunity for domestic and foreign experts to exchange and update new trends in cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention, aiming to reduce the burden of disease and improve the quality of healthcare in Vietnam.
