To help students use AI correctly.

In recent times, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have been strongly applied to teaching, creating enthusiasm for learning and making complex knowledge more intuitive, easy to understand, and easy to remember. AI has also become a useful tool to support students' learning; however, without guidance from teachers and supervision from families, students can easily become dependent on and misuse it.

In the digital age, AI-based learning tools are opening up new ways for students to access knowledge easily and effectively. AI platforms can simplify complex concepts and guide students step-by-step in the process of acquiring and consolidating knowledge.

Pham Thuy Duong, an 11th-grade student specializing in English at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted, shared: "When studying English, I find that my pronunciation isn't accurate, so I often use ChatGPT to practice pronunciation, learn new vocabulary, and improve my listening and speaking skills."

With its ability to analyze abilities and learning speed, AI can tailor content and difficulty levels to suit each student; many tools even encourage discussion and critical thinking. In reality, the use of AI by students to search for information, solve problems, create outlines, and summarize content during their studies is becoming increasingly common. However, over-reliance on artificial intelligence could lead to laziness in critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving.

In response to this situation, schools in the province have proactively adjusted their teaching and assessment methods to help students understand and use AI correctly, honestly, and creatively. Schools have collaborated in disseminating information and providing guidance on knowledge, tools, and methods for applying AI in learning. They have also clearly defined the line between creativity and cheating to guide students in their application.

Teachers and students are applying AI in teaching and learning.

At Nguyen Tat Thanh Specialized High School (Van Phu Ward), teachers directly teach, create questions, evaluate, grade, and proactively guide students in applying AI. Many teachers design lessons in an open-ended way, enhancing students' creative thinking by allowing them to prepare content at home beforehand, without limiting their ability to search for and research information.

Ms. Luc Thi Thu Hoai, a chemistry teacher at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted, shared: "Innovating teaching and learning methods is one of the benefits of applying AI in education . I always try to learn and explore AI applications to support me in lesson planning and guiding students in scientific research. AI tools have helped us in designing lessons; building question banks for testing and evaluating students, thereby diversifying learning methods and improving teaching quality."

During class time, teachers and students focus on discussing and debating ideas to reach a common understanding on the lesson topic; students are encouraged to use AI as an online tutor, guiding them step-by-step through problems and suggesting the most optimal methods to reinforce basic knowledge. Teachers require students to clearly indicate the content where AI is used in exercises; they design exercises that encourage critical thinking, such as comparing, modifying, and refuting results generated by AI.

Alongside leveraging the advantages that AI offers, teachers proactively guide students to use this tool correctly, avoiding misuse or placing absolute trust in it. Mr. Dang Tuan Thanh, a computer science teacher at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted, stated that students' learning and testing processes are closely monitored; students are not allowed to use assistive devices. Tests are designed in multiple versions, with a system of randomly shuffling questions, making it very difficult for AI to "do the work for them."

Teacher Thanh also emphasized that artificial intelligence only handles well the types of problems within the dataset it has been trained on. For exercises requiring deep thinking, analysis, or novelty, AI often fails to produce accurate results. Therefore, the school always emphasizes to students that AI cannot replace humans; on the contrary, those who know how to use AI effectively will have a significant advantage over those who do not. The application of AI must be accompanied by clear thinking and purpose, understanding of digital ethics and information security; in particular, all results from AI need to be verified before any decisions are made.

It is evident that the application of AI in education is helping students access a wealth of resources, thereby expanding their knowledge and developing critical thinking skills. However, schools and families need to guide and support students in effectively utilizing AI to meet the demands of learning in the digital age.
