6th grade students of Vo Truong Toan Secondary School have just taken their final exam for the first semester of Literature. However, the school's exam paper has been reported to have many errors.

Specifically, the test consists of 2 parts: reading comprehension and writing, each part is worth 5 points, the test time is 90 minutes. In terms of form, after the word Part I, a colon is used, and after the word Part II, a period is used. Between the decimal digits representing the score in questions 1 to 5 in Part I (reading comprehension), a period is used, while in Part II, a comma is used. In question number 5, in the same line, "02 lessons" has a 0 in front, while "about 3 to 5 lines" does not.

In addition, the title of the poem says “read the text” but below question number 5 it asks “From the content of the poem, what lessons do you learn about how children treat their parents? (present 2 lessons in about 3 to 5 lines). Question number 1 quotes two lines of poetry from the above text, but is missing the ellipsis at the end of the sentence as given in the text.

In terms of content, the reading comprehension section requires students to read and understand the six-eight verse form, but question 3 requires stating the function of two adverbs in two prose sentences that have nothing to do with the given text.

In question number 4, students are asked to "Comment on the uniqueness when the author uses the word "gentle" to describe in the verse "Still gentle mother's hand", without specifying whether it is a poem or a verse.

Question number 5, the question requires the content of the "poem" "A oi tay me", but the reading comprehension part is an excerpt.

The school explained

After receiving the feedback, the Board of Directors of Vo Truong Toan Secondary School, the head of the professional group and all teachers teaching Literature in grade 6 of the school held a meeting on this issue.

According to the meeting minutes, the meeting participants unanimously agreed: Regarding form, experience, consistency in the use of periods, commas, colons, semicolons, ellipses, consistency in the form of the document. Experience in the use of the words "poem", "verse", "text", "data", consistency in the use of words.

In terms of content, when preparing the test questions, the Literature professional group and team followed the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training, closely following the professional orientation, matrix, and specifications of the unified District 1 subject council. Teachers integrated Vietnamese knowledge according to the requirements of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, and the assessment test aimed to promote students' abilities.

With question number 3, the requirement to determine the function of the adverb is a question that meets the content of Vietnamese knowledge that students learned in semester 1, meets the requirements of the program and matrix, and specifications.

With question number 4, the requirement of the question clearly stated the unique feature of the word “gentle” in the context of the verse “Still gentle mother’s hand”. Students can interpret the word “gentle” in a reasonable and convincing way.

With question number 5, the group would like to draw some lessons from the inappropriate use of the word “poem”. With this question, students only need to draw lessons based on the content of the poem. The question does not puzzle or require students to answer anything about the whole poem.

Vo Truong Toan Secondary School affirmed that the teachers taught the correct and sufficient knowledge according to the requirements of the program. This test was in accordance with the test matrix and specifications required by the Department of Education and Training, closely following the review orientation agreed upon by the professional group.
