On April 25, the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent a document to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province regarding the rectification of practical activities at the Ponagar Tower Festival (Nha Trang City).
According to the Department of Cultural Heritage, the Ponagar Tower Festival in Nha Trang has spiritual performances and sacred dances to offer to the Holy Mother, hoping that she will witness the dancers' devotion, avoiding variations into entertaining variety acts during the festival.
The Department of Cultural Heritage requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province to promptly direct and rectify activities taking place during the festival, especially in the Po Nagar Tower area.
Specifically, strengthen state management of management, protection and promotion of intangible cultural heritage values in the area in accordance with the provisions of law on cultural heritage.
Direct relevant professional agencies to implement communication and propaganda measures so that the community and local authorities have correct awareness of the practice of intangible cultural heritage, and correctly practice traditional rituals, ceremonies, and performances.
At the same time, respect the principles of practice of intangible cultural heritage, respect the heritage subject community, protect and promote the values of the Ponagar Tower Festival heritage in Nha Trang.
Previously, Tuoi Tre Online published an article about the reflection of local people and tourists that many pilgrimage groups created images of tigers dancing, singing, and performing spirit mediumship, causing offense at the Ponagar Tower Festival.
Readers also reported this content to the Tuoi Tre newspaper hotline and said that the spirit mediumship, reformed opera singing, and Tiger statue performance... at Ponagar Tower are completely inappropriate and should be corrected.
