On May 25 in the Philippines, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) held a drawing ceremony for the AVC Nations Cup volleyball tournament with the participation of representatives of member federations.

The 2025 AVC Nations Cup for women will be held in Vietnam from June 7 to 14 in Hanoi. Previously, AVC had tried to persuade Qatar to participate, but the country refused, so the tournament will only have 11 teams instead of 12 as planned.

With an odd number of participating countries, the organizers were forced to change the group structure to only 2 instead of 4 as planned. Group A includes host Vietnam, Australia, India, Taiwan and Hong Kong China. Meanwhile, Group B has 6 teams: Kazakhstan, Philippines, Iran, Indonesia, Mongolia, New Zealand.

The group of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is considered very easy when the opponents are all rated lower than the home team. In fact, in recent confrontations, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his students have had clear victories against the above opponents. According to the new format, each group will play a round robin to calculate points to select the top 4 teams to enter the quarter-finals.

For the men's event, all 12 participating teams are divided into 4 groups A, B, C and D. Each group of 3 teams will play a round robin to score points, selecting the top 2 teams to enter the quarter-finals.

The draw put the Vietnamese men's volleyball team in Group D with Korea and New Zealand. If Korea is the team with the highest rating in the group (ranked 27th in the world ) and is sure to have a ticket to the next round, the remaining spot will be a competition between Vietnam and New Zealand.

Captain Van Hiep and his teammates have every chance of advancing as New Zealand is not a highly rated opponent. In recent years, this country has almost disappeared from the Asian volleyball map. The last time they participated was the 2005 Asian Championship, they ranked 15th out of 18 participating teams.

New Zealand has athletes with good height and physical strength, however, their professional level and cohesion are the weak points of this team. If they play at their best, Vietnam has a chance to win a ticket to the quarter-finals of the AVC Nations Cup. The men's tournament will take place from June 17 to 24 in Bahrain.
