On March 18, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai province sent a document to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) requesting urgent and serious implementation of measures to overcome dust pollution caused by the construction of Long Thanh airport phase 1.

The document said that on March 15, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai province coordinated with the People's Committee of Long Thanh district (Dong Nai), the People's Committee of Binh Son commune (Long Thanh district) to work with ACV to monitor the implementation of measures to overcome dust pollution at the project.
At the meeting, ACV said it had implemented measures to sprinkle water to suppress dust, in which the construction unit and contractor mobilized 43 water trucks to suppress dust along internal roads. However, "monitoring results show that ACV has not seriously and fully implemented the contents of dust pollution remediation," the report said.

Specifically, ACV has not yet had measures to monitor the vehicles, frequency, schedule and watering locations of the joint venture contractor, so watering and spraying are not regular, continuous, and not at all locations; some transport vehicles do not run on public roads, causing sand and dust to be generated during movement; dust control solutions by spraying polymer have not been applied; and the planting of grass to protect the slopes in the 722-hectare excess soil storage area and in the settling lake 1 area along the boundary of the 722-hectare soil storage area has not been completed.
At the settling pond 1 area, there is no construction of a drainage ditch leading to the settling pond; there are no measures to control vehicle speed compared to the prescribed speed in the construction site.
In addition, ACV does not have a plan to wash away mud and dirt stuck to the vehicles to avoid spilling them onto the road when leaving the project area.
Dust from the airport spreads to residential areas and "attacks" the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway.
Therefore, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai requested ACV to seriously implement measures to overcome the dust pollution caused by the construction activities of Long Thanh airport project. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Dong Nai also said that it will coordinate with the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to review and handle the above problems.
Long Thanh Airport is 5,000 hectares wide, in phase 1, contractors will construct on an area of 1,810 hectares. From around the end of 2022, dust pollution from the Long Thanh airport construction site began to spread, flying into surrounding residential areas, affecting people's lives. In early 2023, the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment inspected and then decided to fine ACV VND 270 million.
