On April 17, the Department of Construction of Dong Nai province announced that it had completed the technical plan for the Cat Lai bridge project, a strategic infrastructure project connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai province, replacing the current Cat Lai ferry.
According to the proposed plan, Cat Lai Bridge has a total length of about 11.37km (including the main bridge and approach roads), of which the bridge section is more than 3km long, with a design speed of 80km/h. The bridge cross-section is 33.5m wide with 6 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes. The approach bridge is 30m wide. The main structure uses cables, ensuring clearance for ships with a width of ≥ 235m and a height of ≥ 55m, meeting the standards for seagoing vessels.

Dong Nai proposed to build Cat Lai bridge, replacing the existing ferry to connect Ho Chi Minh City with Nhon Trach (Dong Nai). |
The starting point of the bridge is on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), about 400m from My Thuy intersection; the end point connects to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway (section through Nhon Trach District, Dong Nai).
The total investment of the project is estimated at about 19,391 billion VND. Of which, the Department of Construction of Dong Nai province proposed to use about 10,357 billion VND of state budget capital to carry out site clearance and invest in the construction of the road connecting from after the toll station to the end of the route.
The remaining part of the project from the beginning of the route to the toll station will be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract. The cost of this part is about 9,034 billion VND, of which the state budget capital participates in 4,427 billion VND (49%), the rest is mobilized by investors (about 4,600 billion VND, accounting for 51%).
The project is divided into 4 components including: Site clearance on Ho Chi Minh City side: estimated at 3,611 billion VND; Site clearance on Dong Nai side: about 2,967 billion VND; Investment in construction of the main bridge to replace Cat Lai ferry: more than 9,000 billion VND; Construction of the connecting road from after the toll station to the end of the route: about 3,779 billion VND.
Previously, the Prime Minister had issued a document agreeing to assign the People's Committee of Dong Nai province as the competent state agency to implement the project under the PPP form and BOT contract.
The Cat Lai Bridge project is a particularly important project in the orientation of inter-regional transport infrastructure development, helping to relieve pressure on the Cat Lai ferry route, which has been overloaded for many years. When completed, the project will create momentum to promote urban, industrial and service development in the eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province, especially the new urban area of Nhon Trach.
