The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has just announced that at about 4:57 (GMT) or 11:57 (Hanoi time) today, May 25, an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred at the coordinates (15.001 degrees North latitude, 108.154 degrees East longitude), with a focal depth of about 8.1 km in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.
Earlier, in the early morning of the same day, in the Nam Tra My area, Quang Nam province, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale and a depth of 8.1km also occurred.

According to experts, earthquakes in Kon Plong district are considered to be induced earthquakes, occurring frequently and continuously since 2021. Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to small fault zones. Earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5.0 on the Richter scale. Although earthquakes in this area occur frequently, they have not reached the level of risk warning.
