To celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024), from the beginning of August, in the inner city, the city center, and main roads, visual propaganda and promotion work has been carried out in diverse and rich forms according to the approved content and poster designs. The focus is on decorating central areas, main roads, offices, agencies, businesses, schools, public cultural sites, and places with high pedestrian traffic. Local radio stations have increased news coverage and broadcast time before, during, and after the anniversary to create a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere among all segments of the population.
Cultural activities
According to a report from the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , historical sites in the city welcomed 117,500 visitors from various agencies, organizations, and the public for incense offerings and sightseeing throughout the week, generating 6.5 billion VND in revenue. Overall, in the first eight months of 2024, these sites received nearly 2.2 million visitors, generating 120 billion VND in entrance fees, exceeding the annual target by 65%.
Also during the month, art units organized performances serving political and foreign affairs purposes, as well as catering to a wide range of people, with 202 performances (40 political performances and 162 revenue-generating performances) generating 5.4 billion VND. Cumulatively for the first eight months of 2024, art units in the city organized 1,529 performances (235 political and foreign affairs performances; 1,294 revenue-generating performances), achieving 59% of the annual plan; attracting 553,400 viewers, completing 74.3% of the plan; and generating 37.2 billion VND in revenue, reaching 76.9%.
Sports activities
In August, Hanoi City sent delegations of coaches and athletes to training camps and competitions at domestic and international tournaments, while also coordinating the organization of professional competitions as planned. High-performance sports in the month achieved 428 medals domestically (173 gold, 120 silver, and 135 bronze), bringing the total number of medals for Hanoi City in the first eight months of 2024 to 1,987 medals of all types, including: 80 medals at international tournaments (14 gold, 32 silver, and 34 bronze) and 1,907 medals domestically (727 gold, 568 silver, and 612 bronze).
