According to the 2023 university admission plan, universities will announce admission scores based on high school graduation exam scores before 5 p.m. on August 22. It is expected that this year's admission scores will increase slightly compared to 2022.
Wishes are filtered 6 times
From August 12 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20, universities will coordinate with relevant units to review data on the system, then upload data and admission information to organize the admission of registered candidates. Virtual filtering and processing of candidates' wishes will be performed 6 times on the system and will end on the afternoon of August 20. Candidates will receive admission results on the system at the latest by 5:00 p.m. on August 22.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , by the end of the first round of university admission registration, more than 660,000 candidates had completed entering their wishes into the system, reaching 66% of the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam, an increase of about 2% compared to last year (64.07%). The total number of wishes registered by candidates was more than 3.4 million, with each candidate registering more than 5 wishes on average.

From now until the official benchmark is available, it is time for candidates and their families to reconsider their admission if they are admitted to their registered preferences or to find a more suitable path if they fail the university entrance exam or are admitted to a preference they are not particularly fond of. Although experts have warned about arranging and registering preferences on the common system, many candidates, in order to be sure of passing, have registered preferences they do not really want.
While the chances of admission are uncertain, experts suggest that candidates should consider their wishes. Currently, many schools encourage and facilitate dual degree studies if students meet the requirements set forth in the regulations.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) reminded candidates: “In any profession of the economy , not only in Vietnam but also in the world, there is always a shortage of talented people, a shortage of high-quality, highly qualified human resources. Therefore, when you have passion and dedication for studying, cultivating knowledge, experience, and skills to become the best in your field of expertise, you will never have to worry about lack of jobs or low income. Don't think that after just a few years of studying, you can get a job, but always think that learning is lifelong, not just stopping at a university or college degree."
The benchmark will shift higher.
Although the deadline for announcing admission scores has not yet come, many schools have also released predicted admission scores for their "hot" majors in recent years.
The benchmark score for Hanoi National University in 2023 is expected to increase slightly compared to 2022, ranging from 24 to 29 points. The benchmark score for Ho Chi Minh City National University is also expected to increase slightly compared to 2022, ranging from 23 to 28 points. Meanwhile, the benchmark score for Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023 is expected to increase by about 0.5 points compared to 2022. The benchmark score for Hanoi Medical University is expected to move higher than last year, around 1-1.25 points.
According to the forecast of Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung, Training Department, Hanoi Medical University based on the analysis of the 2023 high school graduation exam, the traditional score range related to the health sector is A00 (Math - Physics - Chemistry), B00, the combined score of B00 has shifted by 1-1.25 points from 21-25 points. As for 25 points and above, there has been no significant change in the past 2 consecutive years. The number of candidates with admission scores from 28 to 30 points is higher than in 2022. The number of candidates with 26 - 28 points is also higher than the previous year, while the total quota of the school has not changed. Therefore, if considering the average score of the exam, it is expected that the standard score of the medical sector will increase compared to before.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University, said that for "hot" majors such as Logistics and Supply Chain Management, in 2022 the benchmark score was 28.2, and this year it is difficult to increase it higher. Similarly, the benchmark score of this major at Foreign Trade University is also 28.2 points; Banking Academy has always fluctuated around 27 points in the past 3 years.
The predicted slight increase in benchmark scores compared to 2022 is explained by the fact that the number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam this year has increased by more than 23,000 compared to 2022. This year's high school graduation exam is considered more difficult than in 2022. Many universities have added new admission methods, requiring candidates to have additional foreign language certificates, competency certificates, etc. However, some universities are expected to keep or reduce their benchmark scores this year. The reason is that these schools have a low level of competition, or have added new admission methods to help candidates have more chances to be admitted.
From now until the announcement of the benchmark scores according to the high school graduation exam score method, candidates need to closely follow the admission information of universities to update the benchmark scores and the latest information.
