On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025), we returned to visit Dong Tien commune (Khoai Chau) - the hometown of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, the mother of beloved Uncle Ho. The land that used to be poor has now taken on a new look, prosperous, developed, prosperous and changing every day.
Hoang Thi Loan Memorial House – Red Address of Traditional Education
Turning about 50m from National Highway 39, the Hoang Thi Loan Memorial House is solemn yet simple, standing out in the peaceful Van Noi countryside. The building was built in a spacious ancient architectural style, located on an area of 3,500m², marking the gratitude of the hard-working mother who gave birth to and raised President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader of the nation.
According to the Hoang family genealogy, Hoang Xuan Duong, the father of Hoang Thi Loan, was the 22nd generation from the Hoang family in Van Noi. In order to honor her birth, the memorial house was completed in 2005 and has become a place to preserve many valuable documents and artifacts related to her life and the influence of her and the Hoang family on the later career of President Ho Chi Minh.
Besides the documents about the Hoang family and President Ho Chi Minh’s relatives, the most touching artifact for visitors is the loom made from the original model currently kept in Nam Dan district (Nghe An). This is the item that Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan used day and night to weave cloth to support her husband’s education and raise her children. There is also a space to display images of Uncle Ho when he visited Hung Yen, along with documents reminding the spirit of studying and following Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.
In 2023, the memorial house was ranked as a provincial historical relic. In 2024, the province and Khoai Chau district invested in renovating and upgrading the relic's infrastructure, expanding the access road and parking lot, creating favorable conditions for people and tourists to come and offer incense and worship.
Mr. Hoang Nghia Hiep, the caretaker of the church, said: The Hoang family currently has about 30 households. The descendants of the family always uphold the spirit of studiousness and family tradition.
Every year, on the occasion of Uncle Ho's birthday, holidays, New Year or the new school year, many groups of students and people inside and outside the province come here to remember, study and promote the tradition of "drinking water, remembering its source". The memorial house of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan has become a red address in educating the good tradition and morality of drinking water, remembering its source, for the next generation. At the same time, it is an attractive tourist destination for visitors from all over the world when visiting Hung Yen.
Ms. Dam Thi Thinh, a native of Hung Yen living in Gia Lam district (Hanoi city) shared: During the recent April 30 and May 1 holidays, my family visited some historical sites in our hometown. What was special was that when we visited the Hoang Thi Loan Memorial House, the children were very excited to admire the valuable images and documents displayed there. From there, the children could somewhat imagine the hard-working, patient, and sacrificial life of the great mother of President Ho Chi Minh, contributing to fostering respect, love and pride for Uncle Ho.
Dong Tien changes every day
Saying goodbye to the Hoang Thi Loan Memorial House, walking along the straight, wide concrete roads into each village and hamlet, we easily noticed the “transformation” of this once poor land. High-rise, solid houses with modern architecture are built side by side, proving the prosperous life and sustainable development of the homeland of Uncle Ho’s mother.
Comrade Do Xuan Long, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Dong Tien Commune, said: Proud to be the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh's mother, the Party Committee and People of Dong Tien Commune always strive to build their homeland to become more and more prosperous. The economic structure has shifted positively, the proportion of agriculture is only 7%, while trade and services have risen to 79.5%.
The advantage of being located near Highway 39 helps Dong Tien strongly develop many industries such as: construction materials production, garment, food processing, scrap recycling, metal forging, transportation services... In 2024, the economic growth rate will reach 11.5%, average income per capita will be more than 91 million VND, the poverty rate will be below 0.9%.
In the period of 2020 - 2025, the commune invested tens of billions of VND to build schools, roads, public works... Currently, 100% of rural roads have been concreted or paved. Infrastructure is stable, cultural and spiritual life is improved, national defense and security are ensured, creating a civilized and modern living environment for the people.
May 19 this year is a special occasion to celebrate the 135th birthday of beloved President Ho Chi Minh. The achievements of Dong Tien commune are the “fragrant flowers” that the Party Committee, government and people here offer to him and his mother with deep gratitude.
