Over the past 67 years, Lao Cai Electricity has become a bright spot in the electrification journey, associated with many historical milestones and proud achievements. In 2025, the turning point of merging with Yen Bai Electricity opens a new path - where the synergy will be promoted to bring sustainable, modern, and friendly electricity to every border village.

The fire from Uncle Ho's advice

In September 1958, during his visit to the ethnic people of Lao Cai, President Ho Chi Minh visited the Lao Cai Power Plant - the predecessor of today's Lao Cai Power Company. He advised: "You must unite, enthusiastically compete, and produce a lot of electricity to build a rich and beautiful homeland and develop the country."

That instruction was not only a production directive but also an order from the heart, a torch to light the way for many generations of cadres and workers in the electricity industry in the fence. Since then, September 24th every year has become a sacred traditional day, fostering the belief and aspiration to rise up for the Lao Cai electricity collective, and now it is also the common traditional day of the Lao Cai - Yen Bai electricity collective.

Three decades of re-establishment and persistent construction

On January 1, 1992, along with the re-establishment of the province, Lao Cai Electricity Company was officially established. Over the past 33 years, the unit has persistently clung to the mountains and villages, erected thousands of electric poles, pulled power lines through the forests, and brought the light of civilization to each remote village.

Not only stopping at the task of supplying electricity, the Company is also closely connected with the people through social security programs: "Lighting up the countryside", supporting poor students, helping people affected by natural disasters, and promoting safe and economical use of electricity. That is a testament to the community responsibility and the spirit of serving the people of the Electricity industry.

Parallel Achievements – Shared Pride

Throughout that journey, Lao Cai Power Company (PC Lao Cai) has been in the leading group of the Northern Power Corporation for many years, continuously completing and exceeding targets on commercial electricity, reducing electricity loss, and improving customer service. In recognition of these efforts, the Company was honored to receive the First, Second, and Third Class Labor Medals from the Party and State, along with many other noble awards.

Meanwhile, Yen Bai Power Company (PC Yen Bai) has made its mark with special achievements in rural electrification: 100% of communes and towns have access to the national grid, making an important contribution to poverty reduction and socio-economic development of the province. The unit has also held the top position for many consecutive years in technical management, commercial electricity and customer service. With its great contributions, PC Yen Bai has been awarded the Second and Third Class Labor Medals, along with many noble awards from Vietnam Electricity Group and Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee.

If Lao Cai is the “lighthouse keeper at the border”, persistently keeping the electricity flowing in the middle of the steep mountains and forests, then Yen Bai is the “pathfinder”, bringing the light of civilization to every rural village. Two separate paths, when combined, have created a combined strength: both rich in courage and full of experience, together towards the common goal of providing sustainable – modern – customer-friendly electricity.

Merger Turning Point – New Aspiration

In 2025, the merger of Lao Cai Power Company and Yen Bai Power Company opened a new page in history. This is not only an organizational merger, but also a synergy of strength, optimizing resources, improving service quality, contributing to ensuring energy security for the entire vast Northwest region.

Currently, the Company manages 15 110 kV transformer stations, nearly 700 km of 110 kV lines, more than 5,600 km of medium voltage lines, 7,300 km of low voltage lines and 3,463 distribution transformer stations, serving over 482,000 customers. Behind that number is the dedication of thousands of officers and employees, who work day and night in the mountains and forests, keeping the electricity flowing forever on the frontier.

Towards the future – Lighting up aspirations

Building on a 67-year tradition, Lao Cai Electricity Company after the merger is entering a new development phase with the desire for innovation and breakthrough. Comprehensive digital transformation, developing smart grids, encouraging renewable energy, improving customer service - these are strategic goals, solid steps for the Company to continue accompanying the development of the homeland and the country. From the steep slopes of the mountains and forests to the sparkling boulevards, Lao Cai electricity still flows quietly, connecting the past with the present, paving the way for the future.
