On June 16, the Trump Organization officially announced Trump Mobile, a branded wireless network service, along with a smartphone line, priced at $499.
The initiative is seen as the latest effort to reach consumers through an alternative to major US telecom carriers.
Speaking at a product launch event held at Trump Tower (New York), Vice President of the Donald Trump Group Jr. announced that the new service will include a US-based switchboard, domestically produced phones and many additional utilities.
“We will offer a comprehensive package of services, including remote medical assistance, car rescue and unlimited texting to more than 100 countries, all for one flat monthly fee,” he said.
According to the official website, the first Trump phone will be available for sale from September, with a subscription package of $47.45/month. The unit responsible for operating the service is DTTM Operations, the organization that manages brands related to President Donald Trump.
Also last week, DTTM filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office, including the right to use the name “Trump” and the phrase “T1” for telecommunications products and services such as mobile phones, accessories (cases, chargers) and retail stores.
Trump Mobile enters a competitive market, as the US smartphone industry is currently dominated by Apple and Samsung, with more than 60 million devices sold each year.
Meanwhile, the US telecommunications network is also dominated by three "giants" Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile - businesses that control more than 95% of the market share and own extensive infrastructure and large capital investments.
The Trump Organization's choice to manufacture phones in the US - in an industry that relies heavily on international supply chains - is seen as reflecting the long-standing "domestic manufacturing priority" stance of President Trump and his supporters./.
