The Kyiv Post reported that Ukraine's special intelligence unit called Artan sent a defiant message to the Kremlin, hinting that they could launch direct attacks on the Crimea Bridge (also known as Kerch), the vital route connecting mainland Russia to the strategic peninsula.

The Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence of the Ukrainian Army (HUR) on November 21 posted a video of the Crimean Bridge, filmed by a person standing not far away.

The title of the video that HUR posted on YouTube is: "Crimean autumn wind and absolutely amazing design". The video shows a mobile phone with the Ukrainian flag, located not far from the Kerch Strait crossing project and with the words "HUR Artan".

Artan - an elite special forces unit formed in the early days of the conflict - took part in a series of fierce battles around Kiev. Together with other units such as Shaman and Kraken, they carried out a number of risky and special operations.

Artan was one of the units that helped open the way to Klishchiivka, creating an escape route for Ukrainian forces surrounded by Russian troops at Bakhmut.

They also helped recapture the famous Black Sea outpost of Snake Island, where Ukrainian border guard Roman Hrybov told the Russian missile cruiser Moskva: “Russian warship, go away!”

They are also involved in regaining control of the Boyko Tower – a gas and oil production platform near the Crimean coast – which has been under Russian control since 2014 and, like Snake Island, could serve as a base, helipad and launch site for long-range missile systems.

Based on the video, the Artan commando unit of Ukrainian Intelligence appears to have its eyes on the Crimean Bridge, literally.

Previously, in September, The Drive reported that Lieutenant General Kirill Budanov, head of the HUR, said that most raids on Russian-controlled territory were under the direction of the General Directorate.

The general said that the country will periodically carry out attacks until the construction connecting the Crimean peninsula to the Russian mainland is completely destroyed. He stressed that this operation will continue until Ukraine wins the conflict with Russia.

“The question is not whether we will attack or not. We do this periodically and will continue until the end. It is just a matter of time,” Mr. Budanov said.

The 19km bridge opened in 2018, about four years after Russia annexed Crimea, and became the longest in Europe. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly threatened to attack the vital artery to cut off Russian supply lines.

Recently, Ukraine has repeatedly attacked Russian targets in and around the Crimean peninsula, including the Crimean Bridge and the Black Sea Fleet. Surprisingly, Kiev has always taken responsibility for these attacks instead of denying them.

According to Western intelligence, in addition to existing protection measures, Russia is believed to be using many new tactics such as using smoke screens, sinking ferries and building floating barriers to prevent weapons from attacking the structure.
