From local snacks
Seeing the added value from Gia Lai 's abundant banana resources, Nalee Vietnam Joint Stock Company (Bien Ho Commune) has invested in a factory, a cold drying system, an oil fryer, and a modern packaging line to process many banana products. Each year, the Company buys about 1,200 tons of fresh bananas (moldy bananas, green bananas) locally to process about 200 tons of products such as: crispy dried bananas, crispy cheese-dried green bananas, soft dried bananas, cold-dried green banana powder.
Ms. Le Thi Lan - Company Director - shared: "Banana is a fresh fruit that ripens very quickly, spoils easily, and its price depends on the season. Meanwhile, dried bananas can be preserved for a long time, and their value increases 3 times. Making dried bananas helps banana growers have a stable output. The company is creating jobs for nearly 35 local workers with stable income."

According to Ms. Lan, banana products are available at some distribution channels in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Da Nang... and online sales channels such as TikTok, Shopee, Facebook.
Through the process of approaching the market, the Company has also gradually standardized quality, packaging, and bilingual design on packaging to be more professional, aiming to expand the market.
Similarly, in Bien Ho commune, A Lua One Member Co., Ltd. has also developed the A Lua dried banana product line, achieving 3-star OCOP certification. Mr. Nguyen Tan Khanh - Director of the Company - said: "Dried banana products are a snack that has been around for a long time but consumption is only limited to the local area. Therefore, when continuing my family's traditional profession, I boldly invested in machinery, applied open-frying technology, completely without using sugar or additives, to preserve the natural sweetness of bananas, meeting the trend of healthy consumption".
Through many years of market development, A Lua banana products have been present in many specialty stores and modern retail channels in many provinces and cities across the country.
Not only proving its quality in the domestic market, A Lua One Member Co., Ltd. has the opportunity to go one step further. Mr. Nguyen Tan Khanh said: Recently, the company has connected with a Japanese company and invited representatives to directly survey the factory.
“They highly appreciate our safety, quality consistency and production process. This is a great opportunity for A Lua banana products to enter the Japanese market. In the near future, the Company will cooperate with households growing bananas according to quality standards, while expanding the factory, upgrading the production line and perfecting the necessary technical criteria to meet the requirements of importers,” Mr. Khanh said excitedly.
Great opportunity for banana processing industry
Gia Lai currently has nearly 8,000 hectares of bananas, concentrated in communes in the west of the province, mainly serving export. However, the rate of processed bananas is still low, with small-scale production.

Not stopping at dried banana products, banana raw materials in Gia Lai continue to open a new path which is the production of green banana powder, a variety of nutritional supplements for dieters, athletes , as raw materials for cake products, nut milk, instant cereals, digestive support products for children and the elderly.
Understanding this need, in 2023, Ms. Pham Thi Binh (owner of Nam Phuc Tea Facility, O village, Ia Pia commune) experimented with processing green banana powder. By 2024, she officially launched the product to the market. To have raw materials, Ms. Binh bought bananas from villagers at a price of 3,000-7,000 VND/kg.
According to Ms. Binh, to produce 1 kg of green banana starch, about 12-15 kg of fresh bananas are needed. The product goes through many stages such as pre-processing, slicing, drying and grinding to create smoothness for the powder. Green banana powder is made from unripe bananas, rich in resistant starch - a type of starch that helps support digestion, control blood sugar and is being sought after by the macrobiotic community.
To promote her products, Ms. Binh actively participates in fairs and exhibitions in and outside the province. “Each event is an opportunity to introduce the production process, share the startup story and listen to direct feedback from consumers. Thanks to this proactive approach, my green banana powder product quickly attracted attention, opening up an increasingly large number of potential customers,” Ms. Binh said.
