In Dong Kinh commune, from early morning, Mr. Tran Tho Thong’s family was busy taking care of the kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower beds… This is the family’s main source of income. Heavy rains make the soil moist, plants are susceptible to disease, so Mr. Thong puts soil improvement and root ventilation first.

Mr. Tran Tho Thong shared: "Today the weather is clear, the family gathered in the fields to plow the soil and plant winter crops. This year there has been a lot of rain, so the family invested in plastic film to keep the soil from being soaked, avoiding damage to the crops."
Dong Kinh commune currently has 35 households cultivating an area of over 2 hectares, specializing in growing vegetables to serve the market in and outside the province. Currently, taking advantage of favorable weather, people are renovating the fields, making beds, and planting new crops to keep up with the season. Currently, many vegetable areas are growing and developing well, people are focusing on care, weeding, and fertilizing to ensure the supply of green vegetables to serve the market.

Unfavorable weather and wet soil can easily cause diseases, so to improve the soil and keep the plants airy, households are focusing on cultivating beds, fertilizing, using biological products to prevent pests after rain, speed up production, and ensure the supply of green vegetables to serve the market.

"The winter crop here is mainly radish, sweet potato, carrot... we have to actively cultivate the soil, increase the amount of fertilizer to make the soil loose and suitable," said Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi in Dong Tien commune, Ha Tinh province.
After the consecutive impacts of storms, localities and the agricultural sector are actively providing technical support and guiding people to overcome the damage to ensure progress and complete the winter crop planting plan for 2025-2026. Encourage people to continue diversifying winter crop groups, paying special attention to intercropping of vegetables, linking production with food safety certification, protecting the ecological environment and increasing income value for people.

Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of the Department of Crop Production, Ha Tinh Department of Crop Production and Livestock Production said: "This year, the unfavorable weather has significantly affected the progress of winter crop planting in Ha Tinh. Therefore, the specialized sector is continuing to accompany and support farmers to arrange planting schedules and guide farmers to choose varieties suitable for weather and soil conditions in each area. Strengthen technical guidance, apply scientific advances, replicate safe - organic - VietGAP production models, and at the same time support farmers to overcome natural disasters, prevent pests and connect product consumption".
According to the plan, Ha Tinh will produce more than 12,000 hectares of winter crops, however, due to prolonged heavy rains, the whole province has only produced nearly 3,000 hectares. Therefore, the industry recommends that, taking advantage of the sunny weather, people need to focus on taking care of the planted area, and at the same time continue to cultivate the remaining area to increase income and ensure supply at the end of the year.
