Together with the army and people of the whole country during the heroic years of defending the country, the army and people of Thuong Bang La commune, Van Chan district rose up, contributing to the overthrow of the French colonial rule and establishing glorious feats of arms.
Promoting the tradition of their revolutionary homeland, the people of all ethnic groups in Thuong Bang La commune today are promoting the potentials and advantages of the locality, focusing on shifting the structure of crops and livestock, building and replicating economic development models, promoting the development of industry, small-scale industry and trade - services to improve people's lives.
Born and raised in Thuong Bang La, Ms. Kieu Thi Huyen in Thien village is always proud of her hometown's traditions. Determined to stay with her hometown, Ms. Huyen has chosen to develop her economy by growing Bat Do bamboo and lemons, earning an annual income of 1.5 to 2 billion VND.
"Remembering Uncle Ho's teachings on agricultural economic development, over the years, under the leadership of the Party Committee, my family has taken advantage of available land resources to develop the economy, especially afforestation combined with livestock farming. Currently, my family has planted 15 hectares of Bat Do bamboo shoots and 2 hectares of lemon trees combined with livestock farming, thanks to which our family's life has not only escaped poverty but also risen to become rich legitimately," Ms. Huyen shared.
Coming to Thuong Bang La today, one thing that is easy to see is the change in thinking, working methods and the dynamism and creativity of the people in economic and social development, which has helped to continuously improve the material and spiritual life of the people.
It is not only the conversion of rice cultivation from 1 crop to 2 crops; people boldly change the structure of crops and livestock, introduce new high-yield rice varieties into production and focus on developing household economy. This locality also especially encourages the development of livestock models in the direction of goods and growing citrus fruit trees for high economic efficiency, in which raising deer, raising bamboo rats, and raising pigs are new trends of the people here.
Although he has only invested in barns and breeding animals to raise deer for antlers for nearly a year, the initial 50 deer have brought Mr. Pham Trung Dong in Trung Tam village a profit of more than 100 million VND.
Mr. Dong said that raising deer is quite easy, has high economic value, the main food source is grass, vegetables, tubers in the garden. During the 18-month raising period, mature female deer are mated, and male deer begin to sprout antlers. A mature female deer weighs about 45-50kg, male deer weighs from 65-90kg. Male deer raised for 24 months can have antlers with each weighing from 250-300g of antlers. The longer the deer are raised, the more antlers they have, the higher the profit. Deer antlers have high nutritional value, used to process oriental medicine products, nutritious foods for health. 1kg of antlers is sold for over 20 million VND.
Promoting the potential and advantages of the locality, in recent years, under the direction of Van Chan district, Thuong Bang La commune has propagated and mobilized people to focus on converting the structure of crops and livestock towards commodity production; in which, changing the method of raising livestock from small-scale, traditional to farm raising. Thanks to that, up to now, the whole commune has more than 50 pig raising models with a scale of 50-200 pigs/batch, dozens of models of raising bamboo rats, deer, etc. Currently, Thuong Bang La commune has a total main livestock herd of over 26,000 heads; of which there are 2,200 buffaloes and cows, and over 24,000 pigs.
Up to now, Thuong Bang La commune has more than 600/2131 households with economic development models, mainly growing oranges, lemons, Mang Bat Do bamboo, raising chickens, pigs, planting forests... with income from 150 million VND/year or more; average income per capita reaches 53 million VND/year, the poverty rate is 1.7%.
Mr. Hoang Xuan Duong - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: Although it is a mountainous area, the commune has attracted many businesses to invest in the fields of wood processing, tea, construction materials, especially the 30-hectare rabbit farm of Nippon Zoki Vietnam Company, creating jobs for more than 100 local workers with an income of 6-8 million VND/person/month.
The changes in the revolutionary homeland of Thuong Bang La today have demonstrated the strength of solidarity and determination of the Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups here to promote the tradition of rising up in the reform process. For many consecutive years, the Party Committee has achieved the title of "Clean and Strong Party Committee"; people's lives have been constantly improved. Social order and security have been maintained. The work of building the Party and the political system has always received attention and focus. That is also a solid premise for Thuong Bang La to continue to strive for the commune to achieve high new rural status by 2025 and successfully and comprehensively implement the goals set by the Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.
