In the Dong Nai Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the planning consultant proposed 6 additional locations for golf course development with a total land area of more than 880 hectares.

Planning an additional 880 hectares of land for golf course

In Xuan Loc district, a golf course is planned in Xuan Hung commune (scale of 212 hectares) and one in the residential, sports and resort project northwest of Chua Chan mountain (100 hectares).

Cam My district plans the project in Xuan Duong commune (180ha), Thong Nhat plans the project in Bau Ham 2 commune (174ha), Vinh Cuu plans the project in Hieu Liem commune (155ha) and Long Khanh city plans the project in Hang Gon commune (60ha).

A leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai province said that in May 2024, the department coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Planning and Investment to organize a delegation to survey the current status of the proposed golf course investment project location, its necessity and feasibility.

Through surveys and working with relevant units, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai province agreed to propose the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Planning and Investment to include in the province's planning 5 golf course locations to be implemented from now until 2030, and 1 golf course location of 212 hectares in Xuan Hung commune to be implemented after 2030.

If all 6 of these locations are approved, plus 3 existing golf courses, the land fund for golf courses in Dong Nai province from now until 2030 will be nearly 1,600 hectares.

According to Roland Berger Co., Ltd. (a planning consultancy), Dong Nai currently has the most industrial parks in the country. In the near future, Long Thanh International Airport will come into operation, many urban and service projects will attract more workers, experts and engineers from home and abroad to work.

Planning land for golf courses combined with commercial services and tourism to meet the needs of entertainment associated with tourism is appropriate. Therefore, the consulting unit hopes that the Provincial Planning Council will consider and agree.

Consider the project's impact on the environment

For the 6 locations proposed by the consulting unit and the locality, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai province basically agreed but noted additional considerations for some golf courses near water sources and waste treatment areas.

Typically, the golf course location in Long Khanh city is adjacent to Cau Dau lake, which is exploiting water for agricultural production and storing domestic water for the city.

The golf course in Vinh Cuu district is adjacent to Tri An lake, the source of Dong Nai river, which is exploiting water for the daily life of tens of millions of people in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong. The golf course in Thong Nhat district is near the waste treatment area in Quang Trung commune.

Therefore, the Department recommends that when the project is approved by the province to be included in the planning, during implementation, there must be an environmental impact assessment report and must ensure that it does not affect water resources.

In addition, localities need to review, adjust or propose adjustments to approved plans to create consistency.

Regarding the golf course land fund in the land zoning supplement plan, Mr. Vo Tan Duc, acting chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over the assessment of the need for golf course development in the area. At the same time, advise the Provincial People's Committee to report to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee.

The Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee agreed to supplement the golf course planning until 2030 at 2 locations in Cam My and Xuan Loc districts (residential, sports and resort project northwest of Chua Chan mountain).

For the remaining 4 proposed locations, Mr. Duc noted that it is necessary to carefully evaluate the following factors: the necessity and feasibility of the project; the impact of the project on the environment, especially water resources and forest resources.

Dong Nai currently has 3 golf courses, with a total area of nearly 700 hectares.
