Dong Nai continues to petition the central government to allow a pilot establishment of a free trade zone.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang expressed her opinion at the working session with the National Assembly delegation.

According to the provincial leaders, Dong Nai is located in the center of the Southern key economic region, playing a strategic role in the socio-economic development not only of the Southeast region but also of the whole country. With its location adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City and connecting with Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Lam Dong provinces, the province is considered an important bridge between industrial centers and the Central Highlands region, and is also a gateway for international trade.

In recent years, the province has achieved positive results in urban development, economic growth and improving people's quality of life.

When Long Thanh International Airport comes into operation, the province will be positioned as an aviation economic center, promoting the development of high-tech industry, logistics and aviation support services. Integrated with important highways such as Bien Hoa - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay and directly connected to the Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport system.

Currently, the legal system does not have specific regulations for the free trade zone model. Therefore, the study of the Free Trade Zone Project is an urgent and important content that must be implemented soon to serve as a basis for concretization in practice, in order to build the Dong Nai province free trade zone into a pilot model for innovation of policy mechanisms, economic institutions, and business environment of Vietnam according to international standards.

Research and development of the Free Trade Zone Project associated with Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Port to serve international trade needs in accordance with the strategic geographical location advantages, industry advantages, and development orientation of the province and the Southeast region.

For the above reasons, Dong Nai proposed that the Politburo, the National Assembly, and the Government approve allowing the province to pilot the establishment of a free trade zone model in the area near Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An port.

Previously, at a number of working sessions with central delegations, the provincial People's Committee leaders proposed this content.
