
Tan Phu Dong Commune is a coastal saline island, located between the two rivers Cua Tieu and Cua Dai, with a 12km long coastline, with nearly 5,540 households and more than 23,380 people. This locality has a harsh climate, in the dry season, saline intrusion lasts for 5-6 months, affecting production and life, especially the lack of fresh water for daily use of people. In particular, households living along the coast and dikes do not have fresh water, domestic water, and have to buy water at high prices.
According to Tan Phu Dong Commune Party Secretary Bui Thai Son, to fundamentally solve the problem of domestic water, in recent times, the local government has focused resources on completing the water supply network to serve people in difficult areas, along rivers and coasts; Investing in perfecting the domestic water supply pipeline network to bring it to remote, isolated rural areas for people to use.
The authorities have invested in expanding the raw water pond and the water treatment plant at the 6ha pond, invested in 4 fresh water supply pipelines, and constructed 7 pipelines with a total length of 11,000m to bring fresh water to households in remote and coastal areas... Up to now, 100% of households in Tan Phu Dong island commune have had clean water to use.
The Secretary of the Tan Phu Dong Commune Party Committee said that in case the drought and salinity become severe, complicated and unpredictable, the locality will open dozens of free public water taps to serve people in remote areas, areas with special difficulties in water sources for daily life. Currently, the locality has completely and effectively resolved the problem of providing daily water on the island, completely overcoming the severe shortage of daily water in the dry season every year, ensuring a stable life for the people.
