Bac Lieu tourism: Joining forces to accelerate and break through.

Bac Lieu and Ca Mau will merge into one province from July 1st, opening up new development opportunities and awakening the dormant potential and strengths of this southernmost region of Vietnam. In particular, the tourism sector, with its shared and unique resources, will be leveraged and combined to propel the tourism industry forward, achieving breakthroughs.

BRINGING THE BEAUTY OF BAC LIEU TO ANOTHER WORLD

As the first few months of 2025 passed, the tourism landscape of Bac Lieu was painted with vibrant colors, thanks to impressive growth figures in visitor numbers and service revenue. This result is significantly contributed by the innovation in methods and content of tourism promotion, with a focus on applying information technology to bring the image of Bac Lieu to friends both domestically and internationally.

In line with the digitalization of tourism, the Provincial Tourism Promotion Center has just launched the Bac Lieu tourism e-book application: https://pubhtml5.com/bookcase/vjtzg/ to introduce tourists to the attractive and unique culture, cuisine , art, and destinations of Bac Lieu. This is considered a new step in the digital transformation of tourism in the province, helping to save costs while improving the effectiveness of image promotion. From there, it expands the target audience, offering tourists a new and attractive way to experience the land and people of Bac Lieu.

Leveraging the role of the press as a "bridge" in tourism development, the Provincial Tourism Promotion Center regularly collaborates with central and local media agencies to produce numerous special features and articles promoting new policies and guidelines in the tourism sector; and to advertise and introduce the province's tourism potential and investment opportunities. In addition, the center continues to develop and publish a system of tourism publications with diverse and unique formats and content to serve tourism promotion and advertising efforts, such as: the Bac Lieu Tourism Guidebook; Bac Lieu Tourism Map brochures; postcards of Bac Lieu tourist attractions; publications on Bac Lieu's cultural and culinary symbols, etc.

The center also actively participates in and facilitates businesses in promoting their products and services at regional, national, and international tourism events such as: Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival, VITM Hanoi International Tourism Fair, Southern Traditional Cake Festival in Can Tho City, and the Vietnam Tourism, Cultural Heritage and Scenic Spots Space within the framework of the National Tourism Year in Hue…

INCREASING DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES

Bac Lieu and Ca Mau have established their positions on the tourism map of the Mekong Delta region. Bac Lieu currently boasts many of the region's most distinctive tourist destinations, offering highly unique products, and the Nha Mat area is planned as a potential national tourist destination. Meanwhile, Ca Mau, along with Can Tho City and Kien Giang, is considered by many experts to be a key tourism hub in the region.

Separated from the former Minh Hai province, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau share similarities in tourism resources due to their nearly identical natural conditions, cultural identity, and cuisine. However, the two provinces have developed their own distinct tourism strategies to create unique advantages.

When mentioning Bac Lieu, tourists immediately think of the immortal "Da Co Hoai Lang" song, the Bac Lieu Prince's House associated with legendary tales of the past, one of the "cradles" of Southern Vietnamese folk music and cải lương (reformed opera), or the famous and sacred Quan Am Buddhist Temple. Besides developing cultural tourism, Bac Lieu also leverages its strengths in the marine economy, wind power projects, and coastal aquaculture models to create attractive tourist destinations.

In Ca Mau, the tourism development strategy focuses on sustainable green tourism. Notable examples include the Ca Mau Cape tourist destination and green tourism areas developed from mangrove and freshwater wetland ecosystems. Furthermore, the province mobilizes the participation of businesses and local people to develop agricultural tourism and experiential resort tourism models.

Despite possessing diverse resources and many unique branded products, the province needs to develop its tourism products in a more in-depth way to reach its full potential. This means breathing more life into the products by building stories for the destinations and dishes, allowing tourists to better appreciate the charm and wonder of the land and its people. For example, instead of simply telling tourists about the life of the late musician Cao Van Lau or the Prince of Bac Lieu, it should be recreated through vibrant theatrical performances. In developing green tourism, the locality should allow tourists to immerse themselves in the lives of farmers, experiencing firsthand how salt is produced, shrimp and crabs are caught, etc. Besides innovating products, especially developing nighttime offerings to retain tourists, the province's tourism sector should focus on investing in integrated transportation infrastructure; developing high-quality human resources; and implementing policies to attract large-scale businesses to invest in key projects.

To help the province's tourism sector accelerate and achieve breakthroughs, fully identifying its unique and shared potential and strengths, as well as current "bottlenecks," is crucial for determining the appropriate development direction. Furthermore, tourism promotion efforts need to be improved, especially through the strong application of digital technology to enhance image promotion and attract investment to the province.
