Ho Chi Minh City tourism 'lands' in Australia, attracting visitors to Vietnam

The Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City tourism promotion program, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, took place from May 11 to 17 in Australia.

The promotion program has 3 main activities taking place in 3 major cities of the 3 largest states of Australia: Sydney (New South Wales), Melbourne (South Australia) and Brisbane (Queensland). The promotion delegation is led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa - Director of the City Department of Tourism with more than 20 representatives of airlines, travel agencies and leading hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and tourism businesses from Hanoi and Hoi An.

The first day of the program series (12.5) took place on the Jackson Sydney Harbour Luxury Cruise, Darling Harbour, Sydney, gathering nearly 150 guests who are travel businesses in the state of New South Wales. This is an event that local businesses have assessed as the largest scale ever in the Australian market.

The promotion programs include 3 parts: B2B - direct meetings and connections between businesses of the two countries; introducing new tourism products of Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City and products designed specifically for the kangaroo market as well as opportunities for cooperation to increase two-way tourism growth between Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City and Australia. Along with that, directly introducing products and services of Vietnamese tourism businesses.

Vietnamese enterprises participating in the program highly appreciated the careful preparation of the activities, creating opportunities for enterprises of both countries to expand their markets.

Guests attending the programs not only received publications and special gifts from tourist destinations in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, but also experienced the activities of painting conical hats, making figurines, enjoying Vietnamese tea and traditional musical instrument performances by artists from the Bong Sen Music and Dance Theater. In particular, lucky guests also received gifts such as round-trip air tickets from Australia to Ho Chi Minh City, vouchers for vacations and experiences in Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi - Hoi An - Khanh Hoa - Da Lat, vouchers to enjoy 5-star cuisine , vouchers to experience health care tourism products... in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa expressed her wish to welcome Australian tourists to Vietnam - a peaceful country with a unique culture with many tangible and intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, along with diverse and attractive natural landscapes with beautiful beaches basking in the warm sunshine all year round.

Ms. Hoa also invited Australians to Ho Chi Minh City - the largest tourist center of Vietnam - to explore a city over 300 years old, a place where many cultures converge, where traditional historical values ​​of the nation can be found in a very youthful, dynamic lifestyle and friendly, open-minded people who always look to the future. The city's tourism industry leaders expect that through the promotion program, the number of Australian tourists to Ho Chi Minh City in particular will grow significantly.

There were 14 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and 2 cooperation contracts signed directly at the program.

A representative of Valhalla Travel (Australia) - one of the businesses with many years of experience bringing Australian tourists to Vietnam, assessed Vietnam as a safe destination for Australian tourists with experience and resort products especially suitable for families. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City is a destination where tourists can spend a lot of time experiencing all the unique and attractive features of the leading economic center of Vietnam.

At the promotion programs, there were 243 B2B meetings between Vietnamese and Australian businesses with more than 100 new Australian partners; 14 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and 2 cooperation contracts were signed directly at the program; 20 memorandums of understanding were exchanged between businesses of the two countries, 1 business signed a memorandum of understanding to open a representative office in Australia.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism considers Australia to be one of the important tourist markets for Vietnam tourism. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam welcomed about 383,511 Australian visitors in 2019. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the total number of visitors from Australia reached nearly 300,000 in 2019; 130,000 in 2022, accounting for about 3.5% of the total number of international visitors to the city. The Australian market has great growth potential and has always been in the top 10 tourist markets to Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in recent years.
