Coming home and opening the luggage, I found a tear-stained letter.
I have a happy family, my parents are both retired and enjoying their old age. I myself have a stable job with a decent income, perhaps human happiness only comes to that. Sometimes when I have free time, I often chat with my father.
My father was an extremely strong-willed person, a bit competitive, he had never begged anyone in his entire life. My grandparents died early, that year my father was only 16 years old, in order to take care of my younger sister, who was also my aunt, he gritted his teeth and sent her to the city to live with relatives. My aunt was able to study in the city, then also stayed and got married.
Before I got married, my aunt used to come home to celebrate Tet every year. After she got married, she hardly ever came back. My father didn't blame her when he saw her happy.
Sometimes my family called to talk to my aunt, every time she called she enthusiastically invited:
“When you have free time, come over to my house to play. Don't stay in the countryside forever. It's boring!”
However, my father has never been to her house. In his free time, he only stays at home to practice yoga or go to the market to buy food with my mother.
One day, my father suddenly fell ill. I rushed him to the district hospital for examination. Unexpectedly, he had cancer and did not have much time left. The doctor said that the treatment conditions in the countryside were not good enough. If the family could afford it, they should take my father to the city, where medical facilities were more complete, and who knows, maybe we could extend his life. After hearing that, my mind was dizzy, and I felt like the sky was falling. However, there is still life, so even though the doctor said the situation was not good, I was still determined to take my father to the city.

I didn't tell my dad the test results, just hinted:
“Dad's illness is fine, but because the hospital at home doesn't have enough equipment, I have to take him to the city for a small surgery and that's it!”
When I got home, I was extremely upset and uncomfortable. My mother asked me about my father's condition, and I answered the same way I told him. That evening, the whole family discussed which hospital to go to. We all thought of my aunt's house, which was right in the city center, and was definitely near a big hospital.
So we decided to pack our bags and go to the city to see our father, officially entering the treatment battle that had no end in sight.
The next morning, my father and I carried our bags and packed a lot of local specialties that my aunt loved to eat to bring to the city.
Seeing us coming, she was surprised but also extremely happy, enthusiastically taking us into the house to sit.
Looking at my father and aunt happily talking, my heart was filled with indescribable emotions, wondering how my father's condition would be on this trip.
After sitting for a while, my uncle and my cousin and sister-in-law also came home, everyone greeted us with handshakes and smiles. My aunt personally went into the kitchen to cook a table full of food to treat the whole family, my father was in a good mood, and even had a few drinks with my aunt's husband. In the evening, when she was about to leave, my aunt suddenly said:
“Where else are you two going? Just stay here with my family. My house is right next to the hospital anyway. I'll take you and your child to the doctor early tomorrow morning. No need to rent an expensive room outside!”
My father was afraid of the crowd and didn't want to stay, so they kept arguing at the door. Finally, my aunt got annoyed and said:
“You think my house is cramped, right? We haven't seen each other for so many years. Can't you just sleep at your sister's house for one night?”
Her husband and two younger siblings also enthusiastically invited my father and I to stay, so we didn't go. My aunt happily went to clean the room for us. Actually, my aunt and uncle were both civil servants in the city, my cousin and sister-in-law also worked at a multinational joint venture company, my aunt and uncle's house was a fairly large apartment, compared to our small house in the countryside, it was a world of difference.
Seeing that it was still early, I went down to the nearby supermarket to buy some personal items. Unexpectedly, I met my cousin and his wife there. They were just one stall away. I heard their entire conversation:
“You’re really something, Mom. People don’t want to stay but you keep them. Why do you keep staying in my house? Now there’s a strange smell in the room. And you’re talking while eating. It’s so boring!”, my sister-in-law complained.
"Don't talk much, it seems like your uncle came here to see a doctor, he will probably be back tomorrow!", the brother-in-law replied.
“Suppose you get cancer or something and borrow money from our family, you have to tell your mother that you don't have any money!”, the sister-in-law said again.

When I got home, I was very upset because of the bad talk. Seeing my aunt happily cleaning up the room, I just wanted to pack my things and leave. But thinking about my father, I tried to hold back, pretending I didn't hear anything, just hoping tomorrow would come quickly. My father went to bed early, and my aunt and I went to the living room to talk. She was very concerned about my father's health. After a while of questioning, she finally learned that my father had cancer.
Knowing the truth, my aunt cried and said:
“Your brother has suffered all his life. When he was young, he only knew how to take care of you, and when he is old, he continues to worry about the family!”
After chatting, I went back to my room and went to the bathroom in the middle of the night when I heard my uncle and aunt talking about my father. I vaguely heard my uncle say that the family had no money, that if my father had cancer, it would cost a lot of money for treatment, and that he couldn't lend me any money. My aunt insisted on helping. That whole night, I couldn't sleep a wink.
The next day, before dawn, my father woke up. He pulled me out of my aunt's house quickly, making me feel confused and puzzled. Before leaving, my father took out a few 500,000 VND bills and left them in the shoe cabinet next to the door. After that, my father and I left. What surprised me even more was that my father insisted on going back to his hometown, his attitude was extremely determined, no matter how much I advised him, he refused to stay to see a doctor. I was annoyed and said:
"Dad's illness requires a check-up. We've come all the way here. Let's go home after the check-up!"
Who would have thought that my father's next sentence would completely break me down:
“Go home now, I don’t want to stay here any longer. It’s the final stage, what’s the point of getting treatment? I don’t want to waste money, I just want to go home and live peacefully for the rest of my life!”
No matter how I tried to persuade him, he couldn't convince me, so my father and I had to take the bus home. I regretted it so much, knowing that I wouldn't have stayed at my aunt's house, I couldn't get her examined, and my father also found out the truth about my condition. Who wouldn't be shocked to hear that I had terminal cancer? It turned out that my father had heard the conversation between my aunt and me, and the argument between my aunt and uncle, that's why he was so angry and left in such a hurry.
When I got home, I opened my luggage and a small package fell out. I picked it up and opened it to see, and found 50 million inside, along with a note that said: "Dear, I'm so sorry, I can only do this much, please try to get treatment and eat well."
Seeing that line, my eyes blurred, tears falling continuously. I looked out into the living room, my parents were sitting watching TV, my mother still didn't know about the incident, she was smiling happily. Perhaps, this was the best ending for all of us, everything from now on, I will take care of, as long as my parents are always happy!
