Preventing landslides on roads in mountainous areas

The road management unit mobilized human resources and machinery to handle the landslide causing traffic jam on National Highway 15C through Nhi Son commune.

The recent storm No. 3 caused landslides of positive slopes, sedimentation of ditches and culverts at 39 locations with a volume of about 25,280m3, including: National Highway 15 with 18 locations, QL 15C with 6 locations, QL 16 with 4 locations, QL 47 with 4 locations, QL 217 with 3 locations. After the incidents occurred, the maintenance management board and road management units promptly deployed inspections, reviews, updates, and reports on the damage on the roads. The units coordinated with local authorities to organize propaganda, arrange guards, and direct traffic...

Through the review of road management units, landslides often occur on many national highways, provincial roads, and western border patrol roads of the province. To proactively respond, road management and maintenance units have mobilized human resources to clear sewers for drainage, clear trees, weed, patch potholes; repair and handle subsidence of roadbeds and surfaces... Prepare necessary equipment according to the "4 on-site" motto to promptly overcome consequences, ensuring traffic on key sections of roads that often experience landslides before the rainy season.

Deputy Director of the Traffic Works Maintenance Management and Public Passenger Transport Operation Department, Hoang Van Tuyen, said: In order to proactively handle landslide situations on traffic routes, from the beginning of the year, the department has developed a plan to inspect key routes that are prone to landslides and inspect the preparation of equipment, vehicles, supplies, and materials of traffic management and road maintenance units. Units are required to prepare necessary vehicles, human resources, supplies, and machinery to promptly overcome consequences, ensure traffic, and be ready to participate in responding to natural disasters when ordered. Along with that, it is required to arrange personnel to regularly patrol on routes under their management, in order to promptly detect and handle landslides and slides that cause traffic jams during the rainy and stormy season.
