The project was implemented by the People's Army Cinema under the General Department of Politics, Ministry of National Defense , on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (1945 - 2025), the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The film tells the story of the soldiers and people who fought steadfastly for 81 days and nights to protect Quang Tri Citadel, the fierce battle of wits between the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at the negotiating table at the Paris Conference, thereby reflecting on war crimes and praising the aspirations for peace and independence of the Vietnamese people.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thu Dung, Director of the People's Army Cinema, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the production of the feature film Red Rain , said this is the first film project that the unit has invested in building and recreating the setting on the set.

This is the largest scale film about the Vietnam War ever made.

"Red Rain is a large-scale war film, and this is the first feature film project that the unit has invested in building and recreating the scene on set," said Lieutenant Colonel Dung. The main scene of Quang Tri Citadel and separate scenes such as the enemy army's forward command post, medical station... will be located in Quang Tri. This is a place of great historical value and significance in the war against America.

Actor Hua Vi Van plays the role of Doctor Le, who treats wounded soldiers. He said this was an interesting experience and gave him the opportunity to better understand what his father's generation had gone through.
