In recent days, due to heavy rains and increased discharge from Ke Go Lake, the downstream areas have been severely flooded, especially in the communes of Cam Due and Cam Binh. Along with evacuating people in flooded areas to safe places, the Ha Tinh Health Department has urgently deployed many solutions to ensure the safety of medicines, medical supplies and prevent and control epidemics during and after the flood.

Heavy rain and flood discharge caused deep flooding in the downstream communes of Ke Go.

At Cam Thanh Health Station (Cam Binh Commune), the amount of water pouring in from Ke Go Lake caused the Ngan Mo River to rise and overflow into the health station. Although it has not caused deep flooding, with the prolonged rainy weather, the water level continues to rise, so the possibility of the station being flooded on the first floor is very high.

Doctor Truong Thi Dieu Thuy - Head of Cam Thanh Medical Station said: "Based on closely monitoring the weather and discharge flow of Ke Go Lake, since yesterday, all staff and doctors of the station have proactively taken response measures, including moving all medical equipment, medicines, chemicals, machinery and equipment to the second floor to ensure safety. In addition, the station maintains 2 permanent staff to perform first aid and initial treatment for people with health problems or injuries encountered during floods. The station also proactively let surrounding households that were deeply flooded take shelter to ensure safety."

Staff of Cam Thanh Health Station cleaned up and moved documents and files to avoid flooding.

At Cam My Medical Station (Cam Due Commune), up to now, floodwaters have reached the first floor and will continue to rise if the rain and flood discharge do not decrease. According to Dr. Doan Xuan Phong - Head of Cam My Medical Station: "The 2020 flood caused extremely heavy damage to the station, after that, the station invested in a spacious and solid 2-storey building. Now, the rain and floods have caused deep flooding, all medical equipment, medicine, books and documents have been moved to the second floor, so we are very reassured. The most worrying thing now is that the station has been isolated, so when there is a health incident, people will have many difficulties in accessing it."

Medical supplies, machinery, drugs and chemicals have been moved to a safe area.

As for Cam Due Medical Station, because it is located in the flood zone, it has been deeply flooded. Water has reached nearly half of the first floor and it is forecasted that the flood will continue to rise. Previously, as soon as Ke Go Lake began to discharge floodwaters, the station proactively moved supplies, medicines, chemicals and essential equipment to a safe place. Currently, many villages in the area are deeply flooded, in some places over 2m deep, the traffic system is completely cut off, so the work of accessing, giving first aid and treating people when accidents or health incidents occur is very difficult.

Previously, the Department of Health also directed medical facilities to proactively arrange specialized and emergency staff on duty 24/7, always be ready to receive and provide emergency care to victims affected by floods; not to interrupt medical examination and treatment for people. At the same time, ensure adequate supply of essential medicines, promptly replenish reserves of medicines, chemicals, and materials for disaster prevention, control, and search and rescue. Implement plans to protect medical facilities in areas at risk of being affected by floods. Proactively evacuate medical facilities in low-lying areas at risk of flooding, flash floods, landslides.

Cam Due Medical Station was flooded the most because it was located in the flood center.

It is known that, in order to respond to the risk of disease outbreaks after floods, right before the rainy season, the Ha Tinh Center for Disease Control has proactively provided disinfectants and sterilizers to medical centers for distribution to medical stations. As soon as the floods recede, medical stations will organize disinfection and sterilization, clean water sources for people, prevent the risk of diseases such as diarrhea, pink eye, respiratory infections, athlete's foot, flu, dengue fever, especially diseases transmitted through the digestive tract such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid...
