Tan Hung landfill has been in existence for many years.
The waste treatment plant of Tay Ninh Environmental Technology Joint Stock Company in the old Tan Hung commune, now Tan Phu commune (local people often call Tan Hung landfill) is overloaded due to the large amount of domestic waste brought for treatment, leading to environmental pollution, affecting the lives and production of people near the landfill area.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, before December 31, 2023, according to the waste treatment zoning of Tay Ninh province, the waste treatment company of Tay Ninh city, Hoa Thanh town and the districts: Chau Thanh, Duong Minh Chau, Tan Bien, Tan Chau, Ben Cau.
However, the company has not invested in machinery and equipment with the approved capacity, does not have a complete waste treatment chain, and the incinerator technology is still outdated, so the operation process is often damaged and requires maintenance, and cannot handle all the waste received daily.
Faced with the above waste backlog, to reduce the waste treatment burden for the company, from January 1, 2024, the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province directed the rezoning of waste treatment areas in the province, reducing 2 units: Hoa Thanh town and Ben Cau district (zoning to the Waste Treatment Complex in Thanh Duc commune, Go Dau district, invested by Hue Phuong VN Green Environment One Member Co., Ltd.).
In fact, according to the current waste treatment zoning, Tay Ninh Environmental Technology Joint Stock Company treats waste in 22 communes: Cau Khoi, Duong Minh Chau, Tan Dong, Tan Chau, Tan Phu, Tan Hoi, Tan Thanh, Tan Hoa, Tan Lap, Tan Bien, Thanh Binh, Tra Vong, Phuoc Vinh, Hoa Hoi, Ninh Dien, Chau Thanh, Hao Duoc, Binh Minh, Ninh Thanh, Tan Ninh, Truong Mit, Loc Ninh (equivalent to 4 previous district-level administrative units).
Although the treatment area has been rezoned, with the amount of garbage left behind, Tan Hung landfill still affects the environment and the lives of people around. Mr. TCC (residing in Tan Loi hamlet, Tan Phu commune) said: "The underground water source near the waste plant is polluted, my family has to buy water for daily use. The air has an unpleasant odor. Every time people complain, the factory sprays deodorizing chemicals. Currently, leachate flows down near the farming area, affecting people's plants and crops."
Mr. PVC, who works near the landfill, was upset: “The stench from the landfill is so strong that workers cannot enter the garden to tap rubber latex. There are times when leachate from the landfill overflows into the rubber plantation, affecting economic efficiency. The authorities need to find a solution to force the company to quickly handle the amount of waste left behind to overcome the environmental pollution situation.”
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, to solve the environmental pollution caused by the backlog of waste, the company must speed up the progress of the Waste-to-Energy Project approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 262/QD-TTg, dated April 1, 2024 on the Plan to implement the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The Department will coordinate with the Department of Finance and relevant agencies to work with the company and urge the implementation of the waste-to-energy project./.
