For example, South Africa has more than two capitals, while Indonesia is planning to build a new capital, in addition to Jakarta, the current capital and one of Southeast Asia's oldest inhabited cities. Here are some countries with more than one capital, serving different purposes.

South Africa

It is the only country in the world with three capitals. Pretoria is the administrative capital, home to the presidency, ministries, and embassies; Cape Town is the legislative capital, home to the parliament; and Bloemfontein is the judicial capital, home to the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Netherlands

The country divides its capital into two parts based on cultural and administrative functions. Amsterdam is the official capital, representing the country's history and culture, and is also the site of royal ceremonies and national events. Meanwhile, The Hague is the administrative or political capital, as it is the seat of the government, parliament, and supreme court.

Burundi

Prior to 2018, Burundi had only one capital, Bujumbura. However, in 2018, the country moved its political capital to Gitega, which is now home to the presidency, government offices , and administrative offices. Meanwhile, Bujumbura remains the largest city and the main economic center, and is known as the economic or commercial capital.

Afghanistan

Kabul is the official and political capital of Afghanistan, home to the government, parliament, ministries and embassies. Meanwhile, Kandahar is the historical and spiritual capital.

Jakarta is the official capital of Indonesia and is also the country's largest city, its political, economic and cultural center. However, in 2022, the government announced plans to move the capital to the under-construction Nusantara City.

Sri Lanka

Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte or Kotte is the official capital of Sri Lanka, where the parliament is located. Meanwhile, Colombo remains the economic center and carries out many government functions. It is home to the president's office, ministries, and embassies.

Benin

Porto-Novo is the official capital, chosen for its history and symbolic importance. But in reality, much of the country’s power resides in Cotonou. It is the largest city, home to the presidential office, key ministries, embassies, and the country’s main and busiest port.

Bolivia

Bolivia is also one of the few countries with two capitals. Sucre is the constitutional or judicial capital because it is home to the Supreme Court, while La Paz is the administrative or political capital - home to the government offices, Congress, and the presidential palace.

Chile

Unlike many countries with separate capitals, Chile has one official capital, Santiago, which is home to the presidential palace, La Moneda, the Supreme Court, ministries, and foreign embassies. However, the National Assembly meets in Valparaiso, which is known as the legislative capital.

Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur Capital

Before 1999, Malaysia had only one capital, Kuala Lumpur, which was the largest city in the country. It was home to the parliament and the royal palace. However, to ease traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia chose Putrajaya as its administrative capital. Putrajaya is now home to the Prime Minister's Office, key ministries, and most federal agencies.

Eswatini

Mbabane is known as the administrative capital of Eswatini, where government offices, ministries, and most embassies are located, and where day-to-day administrative affairs are handled. On the other hand, Lobamba is known as the legislative and royal capital, where the parliament and royal residence of the southern African country are located.

Ivory Coast

Yamoussoukro was chosen as the official capital in honor of the birthplace of the first president, where the presidential palace, parliament and some government offices are located. Abidjan is the country's economic capital, where ministries, embassies, businesses and the stock exchange are located./.
