Coach Cklamovski: 'Malaysia wants to beat Vietnam team'
"We will have an important match with the Vietnamese team. The whole team must try to make Malaysians proud. I know Vietnam is strong, the players have good skills. For 10 years we have not won against them, but that is the motivation. Malaysia is focusing all its efforts to win," coach Peter Cklamovski shared with the press at noon on June 9, ahead of the match between the Malaysian team and the Vietnamese team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
After the opening round, the Vietnamese team leads the qualifying round with 3 points, goal difference +5 (thanks to the 5-0 win over Laos). Malaysia is second in the group with 3 points, goal difference +2 (winning over Nepal 2-0).

To keep the top spot after the second round, the Vietnamese team only needs a draw, while Malaysia must win.
The Vietnamese team has been unbeaten against Malaysia for the past 11 years with an impressive record: 6 wins, 1 draw, 15 goals scored and only 3 goals conceded. While the Vietnamese team won the 2024 AFF Cup, the Malaysian team has been in crisis for 6 years, lasting from 2019 to present. The "Tigers" were eliminated twice in the AFF Cup group stage (2020, 2022) and had to clean up their squad under new coach Peter Cklamovski.
"We know the Malaysian team is underestimated, but just wait. We will change history," coach Cklamovski affirmed.
"The Malaysian team is still implementing everything according to plan, improving physical fitness, and preparing tactics carefully. The players finished the season in April so they are in good shape. Their physical fitness has also improved significantly.
I will help Malaysia play effectively. Everyone is trying to make Malaysia a world-class team. Fitness is the key factor. The players had valuable experience when facing Cape Verde in the friendly match. Let's wait and see how Malaysia performs."
Ignore the talk about naturalizing players
With the desire to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup, the Malaysian team has welcomed many naturalized players.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced the launch of five new naturalized players, believed to be of mixed heritage, including three players of Argentine origin, one of Spanish origin and one of Brazilian origin. They are Imanol Machuca, Rodrigo Holgado, Facundo Garces, Jon Irazabal and Joao Figueiredo.
Mr. Cklamovski is not concerned about the controversy over Malaysian naturalization.

These players have been added to the list of the Malaysian team preparing to compete in the important match against the Vietnamese team in the second round of Group F of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, at 8:00 p.m. on June 10 at Bukit Jalil Stadium.
"I know what others say about Malaysia's naturalised players. However, we are not distracted. Malaysia is well prepared, there are some new faces. They return to wear the Malaysian shirt with pride, when they are dedicated to the flag.
The Malaysian team will show solidarity. People can talk about it for fun, but we don't care. The whole team is just practicing to prepare for this match," Coach Cklamovski affirmed.
The former J-League coach concluded: "The Malaysian coaching staff focuses on building a good mental foundation, assigning each player specific tasks and motivating them to complete them. The Malaysian team always craves progress and strives every day. The players will follow the philosophy. We are improving day by day."
