
On April 24, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province received the certificate of special national monument ranking for the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail (Vam Lung wharf - Ngoc Hien district). This is the first relic of the province to be ranked as a special national monument.
The Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea was a military transport route secretly implemented by the Vietnam People's Navy and the Liberation Army of South Vietnam on the East Sea to transport weapons and cadres from the North to support the South during the resistance war against the US.
At Vam Lung wharf, Regiment 962 and the people received the first ship, Phuong Dong 1, carrying 30 weapons, military equipment... crossing thousands of nautical miles to dock on October 19, 1962.
During the period 1962-1972, the wharves in Ca Mau province received 76 ships, of which Vam Lung wharf alone received 68 ships with more than 4,300 tons of weapons, military equipment... serving the Southern battlefield.
On November 10, 2010, Vam Lung wharf was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Luan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, said that the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea relic (Vam Lung wharf) is the first special national relic of the province, with great spiritual value in educating the nation's traditions.
In addition to Ca Mau, the certificate of ranking as a special national monument of the Ho Chi Minh Sea Trail was also granted to localities such as Hai Phong City (departure port) and Phu Yen and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces (opening port).
