Highlights of affection
- Sir, every year, in July, the whole country turns to Quang Tri with many gratitude activities. In that flow, the program "July Gratitude" organized by Quang Tri Newspaper in collaboration with Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper is considered a highlight of gratitude. Could you share with readers the reason for the birth of this meaningful program?
- Quang Tri is considered as "the land of fire", where it experienced fierce years of war, enduring countless bombs and bullets. Especially in the fierce 81-day battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel (June 28 - September 16, 1972), bombs and bullets completely destroyed Quang Tri town. Thousands of soldiers fell in this fierce battle. According to statistics, at the end of the war against the US, Quang Tri had more than 18,000 martyrs and more than 11,000 wounded soldiers, people enjoying policies like wounded soldiers and tens of thousands of people with meritorious services to the revolution. With many "red addresses" such as: Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel... - which are places that mark the heroic vestiges of the nation in the war against the US to save the country - Quang Tri is always looked to by the whole country, especially on the occasion of the annual War Invalids and Martyrs' Day on July 27.
The program "July Gratitude" was initiated by former Editor-in-Chief of Economic & Urban Newspaper, Ta Viet Anh - a soldier who fought in the Quang Tri battlefield and has been jointly implemented by Economic & Urban Newspaper and Quang Tri Newspaper since 2012. The program aims to show gratitude to families of war invalids, martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and families with meritorious services in Quang Tri province in particular and the whole country in general, practically responding to the movement "Repaying gratitude", implementing the nation's morality of "When drinking water, remember its source".
- So, in your opinion, what is the biggest success that the program "July Love" brings?
- After 13 years, the program "July Love" has left its mark in all districts, towns and cities of Quang Tri province, including 2 gift-giving events in Con Co island district. Thousands of gifts were given to families of war invalids, martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and policy families in Quang Tri province from this program. Most recently, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification on April 30 (1975-2025), towards the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day on June 21 (1925-2025), the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27 (1947-2025), the program's organizing committee presented 150 gifts including 1 million VND in cash/gift and milk to poor students who have overcome difficulties in Gio Linh and Trieu Phong districts; Donated 2 computers to 2 excellent students with especially difficult circumstances; donated 200 new shirts to students of Cua Viet Town Primary School (Gio Linh District).
In my opinion, the greatest success of the program “July Love” is not only contributing to the Party, State, and local authorities in taking better care of the lives of families of war invalids, martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and families with meritorious services, but also creating a brand of a meaningful and prestigious social charity program, highly appreciated by local authorities as well as businesses, philanthropists, and the community. The program also demonstrates the responsibility of press agencies, businesses, organizations, and individuals towards policy beneficiaries, families with meritorious services to the revolution, students, and disadvantaged people in Quang Tri province.

Effort, dedication and responsibility
- Over the past 13 years, this program has been maintained regularly, contributing to bringing joy and reducing sadness to poor people throughout the countryside of Quang Tri. So, in your opinion, what is the key factor that makes this program sustainable and has the ability to spread strongly in the community?
- To maintain a social charity program for the past 13 years like “July Love” is really not easy. This is a great effort, dedication, responsibility and determination of the Economic & Urban Newspaper and Quang Tri Newspaper. During the implementation of the program, the two units always received the attention, support and facilitation of the leaders of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Hanoi City and Quang Tri Province; the harmonious coordination and solidarity of the cadres and reporters.
- In that meaningful journey, the program always receives support from the community and businesses. Can you tell us more about this issue?
- In addition to the efforts of the two newspapers, the support of businesses, philanthropists, and sponsors from gifts, physical objects to finances has brought great success to the program. Without that support and support, it would be difficult for us to sustain this program.
Many businesses and philanthropists, upon hearing about the program, proactively contacted us to participate. Some businesses have been with the program since its inception. Although each gift we give out is not of great value, it helps the less fortunate to rise up in life, spreading the message of love and kindness, attracting many people, businesses, and philanthropists to join hands to respond for a more humane and happier society.
In addition to material and financial support, businesses also joined the delegation of Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper to personally deliver gifts to families with meritorious services and students with difficult circumstances in Quang Tri; and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, Road 9, and the Ancient Citadel. These actions made the organizers of the program "July's Love" feel very warm and were further fueled to maintain this meaningful program.
Quang Tri is always a "red address" for the whole country to look towards.
- Maintaining and continuing the program "July Love" is not only the desire of the staff and reporters of the two press agencies but also the desire of the people of Quang Tri. Could you tell us what plans the Economic & Urban Newspaper has to continue organizing the program in the following years, in the context of merging provincial administrative boundaries and press agencies?
- Right from the inception of the program “July Love”, the Editorial Board of Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper has wished to maintain the organization of the annual program. Because this not only demonstrates the social responsibility of journalists towards families with meritorious services but is also an opportunity to propagate and educate each cadre, reporter, and worker about the nation’s tradition of steadfast revolutionary struggle, about the morality of “When drinking water, remember its source”. With that in mind, from 2012 to now, through the leadership terms of 3 editors-in-chief, Kinh te & Do thi Newspaper has regularly maintained the program with many meaningful activities, innovated every year.
The merger of provincial administrative boundaries and the organization of two-level local governments to open up development space for localities and streamline the organizational apparatus. No matter how it is arranged, Quang Tri is still a "red address" of the whole country and maintaining the program "July Affection" is always the thought of the editorial board and all staff, reporters and workers of the Economic & Urban Newspaper.
- As someone who has been involved in the "July Love" program in Quang Tri for many years, what impressed you most about this activity?
- Over the past 13 years, the flame of "July's love" has always been "nourished" and developed steadily thanks to the tireless contributions of the editorial board, staff, and reporters of the Economic & Urban Newspaper and Quang Tri Newspaper. Personally, what impresses me most is that on this occasion, we put aside our busy work to return to Quang Tri. For a long time, we have always considered Quang Tri a close place to return to, to personally present gifts from the two newspaper units to policy families in the province; to offer incense and flowers to the heroic martyrs who died for national independence. In particular, each trip is not simply a volunteer activity, but also a meaningful journey to the "second home", where we are always welcomed by close colleagues. Here, we are listened to, exchange professional knowledge and share everyday stories, further strengthening the camaraderie and colleague relationship. That is also another highlight of the program "July Love".
